Great read, don't like the idea of "shut up and listen" though. Seems an awful way to reach a consensus.

You can't form a consensus until you understand the other person's situation, which requires listening.

White people try to explain racism to black people all the time. Men try to explain feminism to women all the time. Shutting up and listening to the people who are living the experience (and believing them) is what we all need to do. That is how we understand. There isn't really a consensus to be reached.

I've read the whole article not only as a personal experience but also as an invitation to do the same. Under that light it sounds authoritarian. If it's just the former you're right, he can impose what he wants to himself.
