What's new

proposed trade for Harrison Barnes.

With the way we've been playing those 2 are out of the question though.

Maybe... things get stupid come draft day. Kwahi was projected to go #5... Drummond fell, Granger, Saric was projected around #6 last year at times. I think we finish 9th or 10th if healthy.

Here is a Barnes alternate... We offer some cap flexibility, #10 -#12 (wherever we land) and the GSW pick for number 6 or 7. We can select one of the higher rated wings or Porzingis... I think it is close in value. If Burke recovers some of his value we could add him into the package. Allowing us to pursue a veteran PG to pair with Exum until he is ready.

Minutes? (I have no idea who plays more minutes btw)

Carroll is averaging 4 three-point attempts per game and is at almost 40% (36% last year). It's really only his 2nd year shooting 3's. He's not shooting more because the Hawks have Korver, Millsap and Teague who all shoot a bunch of 3's. Atlanta has shot the 2nd most 3's in the league (behind GS), averaging 25 attempts/per. They're actually pretty balanced. Korver averages 6 attempts/per. For Utah, Trey takes 5/per and Hayward is just over 4. DMC could probably average 5 or so attempts with Utah.

The real key is that he spreads the floor on offense and is a great defender. He's also efficient, unlike Trey. I think Snyder at least gives DMC a call when free agency opens. Even with Trey's improvement, though, the guy is an inefficient ball hog. He ignores everyone else when he's in the game. I think upgrading the PG position is of equal priority. We can strengthen the bench all we want, but no one is going to have a chance to shoot if Trey remains on the team.

Good analysis... I think the reason trey has played better is his ball hoggedness. If you are only looking for your own shot it simplifies things for him. I think he's been asked to look for his shot otherwise he'd be pulled for his tunnel vision. Short term it will help him have success but yeah upgrading the point either through exums improvement or an acquisition would be important.

Just thought of a decent plan B if we strike out on all fronts. Keep our pick and use it on Booker or whatever wing is left. Sign Jared Dudley to a really reasonable deal... not flashy, but we could get him. Good shooter can play small ball 4 and a great locker room guy... a true vet.

If Milwaukee commits dollars to Middleton they likely won't have much left to send Dudley's way. Again this is like Plan B once the better group of dudes has said no.

It seems like I might have overestimated Barnes value. Their fans seems kind of happy to trade him. Here's the responses I got so far(the proposed trade was Utah 1st 2015+sweetener(OKC or GSW 2017) for Barnes):

I'm inclined to say interesting, assuming your pick is around 7. It depends on what our FO sees in this year's draft, how they assess the FA-market and what Barnes/Lee/2015th pick could net us this offseason. To have a good young prospect on a long rookie-contract with the upcoming extension of Dray is definitely intriguing to me, your offer isn't bad value at all.

I would do a draft night of utah pick + our 2017 for barnes and our 2015 pick. Even add featus* as they lose kanter

featus* I think is Festus Ezeli and I think I'd probably refuse taking him.

Barnes the reason behind the invention of the word 'meh'

I'm from Iowa and am not enamored with him. Should tell you all something.

Some neutral fans pitch in on the trade:

Warriors should take that and run. Utah shouldn't even think about it until after the lottery drawing.

This is entirely too much for Barnes, with only one more year on his rookie deal. A top 10 lotto pick? Seems entirely too much.
You're ripping your own team on this one.

Barnes does not hold anywhere near that value.
That's actually another Jazz fan:
Thats an overpay for Barnes. He's not even part of GSW's future core.

Warriors fan:
I like it for the Warriors.

It seems like the consensus is that it's an overpay for Barnes. We might have to adjust a bit.

How about OKC 2017 + GSW 2017?

I'm not giving up the GSW pick... we all look at that as the 30th pick in the draft but it has a chance to be a good pick. A lot can happen in between now and then.

Didn't we have Harrison Barnes for a couple years? Went by a different name, then. Why he changed from Marvin Williams to Harrison Barnes, I'll never know.

I absolutely hate Barnes. He's just so awkward. For a wing, he has almost no handle or ability to penetrate. He's also not a particularly great shooter. That's not a good combo. That's a little bit of hyperbole but you get the point.
