Question for Mormons

Im not saying your point is wrong, since I obviously have no way of disproving it. Rather, I am simply stating that there are better ways for you to communicate your ideas, without making it seem like you're belittling the opinions of others.

I think we all need to check in with why it was so incredibly alarming to speak about what Jesus allegedly did. Is the power of his message totally rocked by the idea that book itself must be pure? Is the Christian psyche that fragile?

I think there is a lot to learn by looking at Jesus' life and example. I think there is a good chance the book doesn't capture it. How could it? I couldn't write a book about Dalamon and capture his essence. How could I hope to do otherwise for the alleged son of God?

Most of the words in the bible were written hundreds of years after the events. It's just common sense to put the word 'alleged' in front of recapitulations of those things.

Posts like this tend to work against you when you're trying to have educational religious discourse with people who have beliefs different to yours. I know I tend to get along with most of the resident Mo's perfectly fine, despite being far from one.

grow up 30+ years ago in the suburbs of SLC when you are the only non-mormon. When you accomplish that, get back to me.

No where did I even try to compare my experiences on a message board with real life. All i am saying is that if I can have god-spirited discussion with posters like Spazz, Trout, cat and Bronco, then so can you. Especially seeing as you should be much more mature than a 18 year old first year college student.

Grew up in a German Bilingual school for twelve years, and was continuously picked on for being the only non-Christian kid with non-German parents in the school. Rumors were spread (and I was picked on a lot for it) about my uncle being one of the plane operators who crashed the plane into the WTC during 9/11. It might not have been as bad as SLC (since I never lived there, so I cannot compare), but you shouldn't assume that my life is much much easier than yours. High School was probably the first time where I felt comfortable embracing my faith in class, as opposed to choosing to stick to singing Christmas Carols and stuff, out of fear from getting bullied.

I apparently crossed a big line when I wanted to call the smallest shred of doubt to the literal reading of the Bible. If that triggers this kind of fallout, then what kind of rarified space is there for respect? When it is that easy to speak out of line, then it's not the squeaking wheel that's the problem.

Look, I completely understand your points, and I can fathom some of the reasons as to why you believe in this notion of Christian-faith, but there are better ways to try and communicate these ideas, as opposed to putting "alleged" before every single point a Christian makes. If its not something you'll decide to take note of now, I would guess that you'll change it at some point, since you really seem like not too bad of a guy.
