Question for you Jazz fans

Hello everyone, a New Orleans Hornets fan here. As you probably know, the Hornets are finally out from under league ownership, and have a commitment for at least 10 more years in New Orleans. Talk has turned now to a complete rebranding of the franchise, including a new name. The general consensus is that it would be great to have the name Jazz back, though its not likely to happen. The (wishful thinking, probably) thought is that, considering Utah is the Beehive State, that a swap of nicknames could be arranged. So my question is, how do Jazz fans feel about the name? Is it a name you're really attached to, can't stand, don't care one way or the other? Just wondering.

Best of luck in the playoffs.

This is wishfull thinking. Our owner already stated publicly that they can't have the name. And just the rumor of it put the fans in an uproar. That name was in NO for like 2-4 seasons and has been in Utah for 30+. There is no way in hell you have a shot at getting the name.

Personally I'd trade it too you for your next 5 1st round unprotected picks. I'd probably be in the minority though.

There's 0% chance the name goes back to New Orleans. Basically, it's worth FAR more to the current owners (in terms of branding) then it would be to the New Orleans owners. While the Millers might part with the name for the right price (such as 5 unprotected first rounders, as gregbroncs suggested), the New Orleans owners would never pay that price. It has nothing to do with history and everything to do with simple finances.

We're sick of the name, really. We want to give it back to NO. We're just trying to drive up the price by acting like we love the name, but think about it. There's no Jazz in Utah! The name doesn't fit. We want to be the Hornets because we're the beehive state (let's forget the fact that hornets have nests). It really fits the team and the fans better, right?

Don't worry man, you'll get the name back. All this talk is just a negotiation tactic.

NO!

I'm not changing my name to "ColoradoHornetsFan" and I suppose this website would need to change its name as well... you were too cheap to keep the team in N.O. to begin with, GET OVER IT!

We should be the Utah Saints ... the Utah Mormons ... the Utah Holy Rollers ... the Utah Missionaries ... the Utah Larry Jerry and John ... the Utah Sloans ... the Utah Vistas ...

I will sell it to you for $15,000,000. Your new ownership will inevitably drown the franchise just like every other New Orleans franchise. I will be waiting and ready to take it back as part of the terms in a $5,000,000 bridge loan from me to your owner. We'll call it a rental.

We are a mean bunch. We should be ashamed and just give the name back as part of our atonement. The Utah Sackcloths.

slc should adopt some jazz musicians and their culture with'em. coz the name is so conceptually solid. or how about the utah swashbucklers? I'm sure there are lots of pirates in slc! arrrrrr of ta sea matey!.. or lake.

And that's the bottom line. They say it cost about $10 million to re-brand a franchise. I don't see Utah doing it if everyone's satisfied with what you have now. But I for one don't get it. Jazz in Utah? And it was really weird when you had the Jazz name over the mountain terrain uniforms, although I get the mountain look in Utah.

Waiting for a naming contest to start up down here in South La, but the early suggestions that seem to have legs seem to be New Orleans Brass (which would not be bad), New Orleans Bounce (no thanks) and New Orleans Spirit, which isn't bad either. Some have suggested the New Orleans Krewe (crew), which I think would work once we explained to sports fans that a Krewe refers to any organization that puts on a Mardi Gras parade.
