Questions about the lockout and the draft

Some of this has probably been addressed in other threads, but I've had neither the time or energy to read them all, so sorry if it's a re-hash.

If the lockout lasts all year, as some are predicting, what happens to the draft picks this year? Under the current agreement, if a player is drafted but sits out the season rather than signing or playing in another league, he is eligible to go back into the draft. Will that happen this year? I would have to think that the agents for Derrick Williams, Brandon Knight, and every American college player selected in the first round would push for a contract to be signed before July 1, if possible, because they likely won't be drafted that high again. Would the owners be willing to sign the deals? If Greg Miller doesn't love the Jazz draft, does he hold off on offering the contracts?

Also, what happens if there is no season, how will the picks be slotted next year? Does Utah still get New Jersey's pick or will that ship have sailed? Will foreign players who are staying overseas become more valuable than players who will have to sit out a year?

It will be interesting to see how all of this shakes out if the season is wiped out.

That's only under the old CBA which expires on July 1st. I think its similar to the NFL in terms of the lockout. No practicing in Jazz facilities, no contact with the management or front office but the Jazz do retain the rights to every player they draft.

Even if there is no full season, there will be no redraft of the 2011 NBA draft.

I don't have an answer that I know to be absolutely true and I know I've asked previously and there had been talk about how next years draft would go as well as I think one of the online writers for ESPN had a piece about it but I can't say that I remember it right now.
As far as this years pick everything I've read has been the teams would still own the players rights (similar to foreign stashed players) even if there is no season. Also there has been some talk that since players do not have contracts some may play over seas if the season is a complete loss but then it gets into a lot of speculation.

So in short I think I didn't say anything you didn't already know.

Also random thought, on my way to work this morning I saw a red Civic with KU license plate frame and I thought "I wonder if that is anybody that posts on Jazzfanz".

It's depressing there will be no summer league.

1. our season was short
2. we have two lotto picks that would play
3. favors, hay, pogo on the team as well?

****!!!! Great year for this to happen :-(

I remember Larry Coon being asked about the 2012 draft if there's no season, and he responded that the league didn't know what to do at that point in time.
