What's new

Quick quotes from Bobby Gonzalez about two Jazz players with team US practices.

It sucks that now that Hayward got that max deal he will probably be put into the number one option role again next year.

I agree, I don't think Hayward should be a number 1 option in the long-term. The reason he was last season is simple - we didn't have anyone better for that role. And we probably won't have anyone better this season either, unless Burks makes a huge jump.

I find this to be nonsense. Burks has more of the makeup that we see in number ones than Hayward IMO. Burks attacks and is fearless. Hayward tries to attack and sucks at it and is a scared bitch. I like neither one more than the other but to say we didn't have anyone better last season and Burks would have to make a huge jump this season is just nonsense to me. That is all based on perception, not the reality of how they play and perform.

Yep. Burks has both the personality and skill set of a #1. Whether he is talented enough to be an efficient #1 offensive option is the question.

It's easy to look at numbers for a player who wasn't a number one option and say he's been more efficient than the number one option(especially on a bad team). Being number one option entails much more than that - it entails that most probably you are going to draw more double teams, it means most probably you are going to get most of the contested jump shots, it entails you playing against the opponents' best defender day-in day-out, it entails you taking the pull back 3s with 2 seconds remaining on the clock, instead of... that other more efficient guy.

If you want to contrast Hayward's efficiency with Burks efficiency the only comparable numbers right now would be of them not being number 1 option. 2012-2013 Hayward vs 2013-2014 Burks. Both being 22, both not being number 1 option. Their stats are really similar in this role PER36, but Hayward's eFG is higher (.501 vs .487)... so yah... the question is open as to whether Burks would be more efficient if he's our first option.

But I agree, with seattlejazzfan, Burks to me is the one player on that team that could oust Hayward from the number one option this year, I just think he still needs to improve for that to happen.

Is Hayward overpaid? Yes.

Do I care enough to argue about it? No.

Y'all need to shut up and just enjoy basketball, damn.

Sounds like democrats talking about Obama.

Don't question it. Shhh shhh baby, you know you want it. Just be still and take it. It will be over soon baby. That's right.

They were both number 1 options last year at times.

Burks seemed to be better at it

Btw I watched about 78 of the jazz games last year and I don't remember Hayward being double teamed much at all.....why would teams double him when he is shooting horribly anyways and missing wide open jumpers and committing bad turnovers with only one player guarding him?

Not really. Discussing the president/politics is a bit more important than a game.

Simply put, Hayward being overpaid isn't going to cause me to dislike a game more than usual.

But....sigh.

What Hayward lacks in basketball superstar skills, he more than makes up for with his charisma and charm. The way he connects with teammates, fans and the media can be compared to other great American icons like Mr. Burns, Charles Emerson Winchester, Dennis Nedry, and Ray Zalenski.

I was glad to read that the new max money contract was not going to burden Hayward with feelings of responsibility or pressure to perform. It's nice that he will be able to play and live with that same careless, oops I meant carefree attitude.

Best post since the draft.
