What's new

Quotes from the Phoenix Suns Forums - "'Gobert is like an evolutionary Mutombo.Nasty around the rim"

Not anyone with an acute racial bias when it comes to assessing NBA talent, no.

What does race have to do with it? I love Jingles. He's one of my favorite guys ever - but let's not distort the facts.

He was a (seemingly) unathletic, Aussie playing in Europe who came over on a minimum contract and got cut by the Clippers.. If they'd have had ANY idea that he'd be playing this well, he'd still be in L.A.

Thankfully, the Jazz gave him a chance, Joe has worked his *** off and he's been able to maximize his opportunities. I thought for awhile that he was just a glue guy, but he's a pretty damn good basketball player when he gets quality minutes. Hope the Jazz hang onto him for several more years.

Ingles got in shape this off season that is why he took a step up. Jazz thought he would be a solid bench guy. They got more than they thought they would now. We got a little lucky with him. Not as lucky as Gobert but still a little lucky. I think Ingles should start over Hood when when Hood is healthy and playing okay. I like ingles shooting, passing and defense better. Plus I think Hood can step up more against bench players.

No ... well, that was what was being said at the time. And Joe didn't get that much playing time in the beginning. It was when Burks got injured that he started to play significant minutes.

This is Joe Ingles game logs for 2014. He played 79 games. He played 4 min in game one. I looked at his next 8 or so games. He never played less then 10 min with most in the teens and averaged 20 for his rookie season. He was firmly in the rotation from the get go. If anyone said the jazz signed Ingles to be Exums buddy it was most likely the speculations of dumb reporters. I want to see a link where DL or someone in the org said this. Don't talk out the ***!!

You're right. Didn't realize he played that much then.

And to think that the Jazz probably signed Ingles more to be Dante's buddy and help with his development rather than be a contributor to the overall success of the team.
Quin was an assistant coach in Europe when Ingles played there, and even coached against him in the Euroleague Final Four. Quin knew exactly what he was getting, and put him into the rotation almost immediately.

So, you're putting Doc Rivers in that category. And even though he admitted he liked Joe, I don't think he would've cut him if he had foreseen him playing like this.
The Clippers had two non-guaranteed players vying for the 15th roster spot, Joe and Jared Cunningham. Cunningham played better in pre-season and was kept. However, IIRR Doc still wanted to keep Joe and cut someone on a guaranteed contract, but couldn't due to an injury, forcing him to keep the other player as cover. He intended to bring Joe back once the injury situation cleared but the Jazz claimed him off waivers.
