Randy Rigby doesn't understand the amnesty clause

As of next summer we won't have a contract other than the 4orce that we can amnisty. As all of the other contracts well be expired. And we traded to get Marvin. So it is completely worthless to us

Rigby always struck me as the upper management type who's been there longer than the furniture and nobody can exactly figure out what he does. A classic American success story. But I guess we're not talking about that anymore.

also, one benefit to the trade deadline route is you can get picks out of people. you can't do that if you just let al/paul expire at the end of the year, and honestly, future picks may be as attractive as anything right now, given the fact that the organization is going to have to extend favors & hayward and has shown an interest in keeping both paul and mo.

Agree with that point. IF the Jazz plan to keep Paul - and are willing to pay to do so - then you trade Al for a decent backup big AND a draft pick. Jazz might be able to move up using some combination of their 3 first-rounders (assuming that pick is in next year's draft).

On the other hand, trading Al gives a lot of leverage to Paul and his agent. They know the Jazz are focusing on keeping Paul. If both go into free aganecy on equal footing, the Jazz stand a better chance of signing at least one at a fairly reasonable salary.

This myth the Jazz are 'focusing' on Paul, or have expressed interest in keeping Paul has got to stop. The Jazz were in the Royal Position of only being able to offer him a deal well under his value. They offered it as any sensible team would. Their actual interest has in no way been conveyed at this point, only their interest in having Paul signed to a cut rate discount. If the Jazz could only offer Al 9 mil per for 3 years, that deal would be on the table, too.

IATWP. Offering him that extension was just a formality, or diplomacy if you will. We don't know if the Jazz have an interest in keeping Paul or Al - or neither.

that doesn't mean they have no interest, billy. if they truly had NO interest, they would have had no incentive to have the meeting at all, even in light of their "royal position."

all signs point to them trying to keep paul and mo. and obviously they need to start thinking soon about extensions / new deals for the 4. so future draft picks will certainly be nice assets to get back in ANY trade.

sure it was a formality, but they wouldn't have sat him down at the table for the formality if they didn't at least want him to know, "hey, we want you back."

What the Jazz have interest in is a contract that is well below value. At that price, Sap has fantastic trade value AND they can use him any way they want. Any team in the league would sign him to that deal. No matter how hard you shut your eyes or how many times you click your heels together, offering him that deal says nothing about whether they want to keep Paul.

All it says is the Jazz aren't stupid enough not to offer it. On the flip side, If Al walked into the front office today and offered himself up for the same 3 year extension, they'd have his signature in less than a minute.

1280 has completely changed ownership and personalities....yet is still the worst station out there.
