I don't mind him, but I'd prefer him to talk more about the technical side of basketball, how plays are run, etc.. I'd want him to 'educate' us a bit more. But that could be due to the Network not wanting to make basketball too confusing for casual fans. I dunno. I've seen other teams commentators breaking down plays more (can't remember the team though), and whenever they do that I really enjoyed them.

As it stands a solid 7 for me.

I give him a not so solid eight. I mostly watch with the sound down though so I’m basing my vote off facial expressions and post-game comments.

I love Boone... that old bastard is a pimp... believe it.

He’s also just a down to earth guy... I watch him pregame before Sacramento and GS games... he knows everyone and gets hugs from all the security and other personnel... just seems like a good dude. He’s associated with Hot Rod too which takes him up a notch.

Cheers to Old Bastard Pimp.

7 for Harpring from me. He can be such a homer but I just chalk it up to his excitement. Sometimes I like his insight, helped by his NBA experience and connection to the Jazz. Could do without some of his tangents but his banter with Boler can be pretty good. Actually now that I think about it I probably should have given him an 8, and he continues to get better, IMO.

He's a homer in the good way though. Granted he's not perfect about this but I rarely see him whine about a foul that isn't justified, and often he'll change his opinion on a replay. I don't mind homers who want the team to win, but I at least want them to be grounded in reality.

Compare that to say a Scott Hastings, who I have to suffer with 4 games a year due to living in Denver, who does nothing but whine and whine and whine about the officiating and is pretty silent when the replay proves him wrong, or will try to argue the video evidence.

I give Harp a 7 myself. I don't think he's going to be a legend, or at least is far from one now, but he's competent at his job. I wouldn't be shocked if I think more highly of him if he still has the job 10 years from now. Honestly the biggest negative for me about him is that he misses too many games.

Pretty much. Basketball broadcasting isnt real big on technicalities. It's not made for it like NFL where announcers have a 30 second break every 10 seconds. That and I think most fans are more casual with the game and uninterested in the inner workings.

I'm giving Harp an 8.5. He does little to bother me, which is pretty damn hard for anyone who has to talk constantly to do, but he's not look like that morning radio program that you say "ya know what, those guys are pretty damn good".

I like the cell phone metaphor. But here's another one:
Craig is the drummer; Matt is the guitarist. As a guitarist, it's damn hard to sound good when your drummer can't keep a beat.

Yeah i get it, I was going to give him a solid 7, like a gave Boler but he gets an 8 from me, his advocacy for the Don at the end of the Season for ROTY went beyond simple homerism and was reasoned, (and i didn't feel like he was doing it like he had too) so he gets an 8 from me.

All that said its easier to call the plays for a winner over a loser, the guys that call the Kings have the roughest gig in sports.
