Rate our draft!

An even A grade.

Ace is going to be a beast and I think his intensity will be a good thing - the team can use it. Dude can shoot, defend, is an athletic freak and his college coach talked about his work ethic and 'coachability'.

Like I said in another post Walter Clayton is our Jordan Clarkson replacement.

Having the choice between Ace and Tre at #5 was the best outcome the Jazz could hope for, imo. Ace has bonafide star power, as much as anyone in the draft. I'd give this pick an 'A.'

I watched Walter Clayton in the tournament. He's a tough, fearless shotmaker who plays hard and with a lot of confidence. He's a culture setter. Obviously the Jazz had a lot of options with their 2nd pick, and there were a lot of solid players available to them. Given the Jazz's point guard situation, I might have gone with Traore, but it's clear that the Jazz care about shotmaking, and it's not clear they really want a traditional on-ball guard to lead the team. I'd give this a 'B+.'

Overall A.
I'm really happy that we got our pick between all 3 of Ace, Tre and Fears. I didn't want to second guess if we truly got the guy we wanted or if someone nabbed him before us. I think we got pretty much the perfect realistic run out of picks before us... I guess... if somehow VJ was there too it would have been even better, but this was not realistic to expect.

With all that said... Ace was 5 on my board in the same 3 to 6 tier so.... I love that pick. WCJ was my 10th prospect so I love that pick too. I think he's a real gamer and he's an exquisite shot maker from wide variety of situations. The versatility of his shot is really exciting. He's great off the bounce, he's great in iso, he's great on the catch, he's great in the PnR... He also seems like a really competitive player... something I felt like we were missing. I think there is a real chance he's one of the starting guards in the next great Jazz team.

With that said... I think A is very much deserved.

As of now I'm going to give it a B+. I have a feeling that Austin Ainge views these guys as possible foundation type of offensive pieces. If that is even remotely the case then it becomes very easy to fill out the roster with complimentary pieces when you have as much future draft capital as we do. I didn't watch a lot of Clayton film pre draft because I didn't think we would go with another small guard since we already had Key and Isaiah but I watched a ton last night and I loved what I saw. He could be pretty special offensively with the added spacing that he will see in the nba. I don't like the fact that if paired with Collier or Key we are small in the backcourt but this roster is still super fluid and things could change quickly with Austin running the show.

It's a B. You've got to go above and beyond to get an A (see Atlanta pulling a heist on New Orleans).

We grabbed the falling 'talent' and made a small move up to secure a vet guard we liked. Nice, but nothing spectacular.

For having the 5th pick, I'd give it an A. When I heard Konnipple called at 4, I thought: Yes! I'm really glad he was off the table and didn't tempt us. I wanted someone with more upside potential.

As far as Clayton's concerned, I'm done with Keyonte. In fact, I put him last on the list of guards on the roster. If Collier can figure out his shot, I think he's our PG of the future, but if not, it's nice to have an option there.

It's the best the league would let us get. So B-minus. Can't rate it too highly when the league decided the draft order anyway. So it was like getting the answers to half the test. Do you really get credit for that part? I guess so but I'll still stick with a B- for now. The trade up for a nondescript player with no real heavy appeal seems stupid to me. Oh no we need to waste a bunch of minor assets to get a guy drafted at 18. Screams "look at us, we know secret stuff you don't! We swing for the fences!" While realistically being a big nothing-burger.

Agreed to a certain extent on Keyonte, too much of a show boat! Think Clayton has more Dog in him! One comp I didn’t hear for him is Desmond Bane but the kid has that kinda swagger and the same fast release.

We picked the best one available but not the ones we tanked for. Damn lotto balls screwed us.
Pessimistic view! So fortunate to have Bailey fall into our lap who could turn out as good or better than Flagg. And to get Clayton Jr the NCAA Tournament MOP as well was icing on the cake.
