Rayjon Traded to Cleveland for $$$

Why include it then? We sent a player... they have to send something more than cash not us... so they can send us some BS rights or a never conveying second rounder. Would love to get the whole story on this and other trades.
Probably because the cavs needed an incentive to take him on and help the jazz

Could be. I think you're right in the sense that there's not a single person we can point to for moves like this, though we always want to put someone's name on it.

I frankly don't find the effort to get out of this year's tax (if that's indeed what it is) to be very surprising (or even out-of-character compared to what we've seen in the past). If you're that close, there's every reason to get below it.
For sure. Makes loads of sense. The costs to get below are looking kinda steep, though. And from my seat, the moves to get there have felt unusually awkward.

Yes, especially when we could have just made Clarkson’s salary this year lower to stay under and put it on the back end when we will be in the tax anyways. Gave away a 2nd rounder for nothing basically. In the grand scheme of things it’s not a big deal at all. Just seems extremely sloppy.

Don't you receive like a 7 million dollar payment from the league for staying under the LT cap? Seems like you could buy a few 2nd rounders for 7 million dollars. . . Seems kind of strange to be working on this now when normally teams start doing these deals before the deadline. I suspect the roster spot is more important than the money, but who knows?

The Tucker signing bugged me. Initially I thought he would be given a bunch of minutes after cutting Jeff Green to prove himself and it didn't happen. It also sent a signal to everyone on the Stars roster that DL and Quin think you suck despite that you won the Vegas tournament and team Tucker was playing on at the time .

Just when I thought I couldn’t have more contempt for this organization.

So many ways the team could save this money (could Clarkson - who had no market above the MLE - or Favors - who probably never had that strong a market in the first place - be negotiated with just a little, or could we try to trade someone and take less salary back?) and they just won’t.

in two years we could be a lottery team on the course of rebuild that is trying to take on salary/picks which would make all the moves we are making right now look extremely dumb.

ingles deal gonna expire and we currently have no candidate to take on his role/salary.

bojan's deal gonna expire and we currently have no candidtae to take on his role/salary.

conley will be long gone.

rudy is a big question mark.

is a core of DM/royce/JC really enough to help us make a deep run in the playoffs?

think about it.

Luxury tax has repeater actions. It's smart to avoid the tax when you can so you dont start that clock. Getting out of the tax now might save you tens of millions down the line if you pay the tax later.
So why not structure the contracts of Favors, Clarkson and Hughes in a way where we don't have to trade a pick and a young talent to save a measly 100k to avoid the tax?

The Jazz literally pay people to get the numbers right on things like this.

This is a disgrace. One of the worst things I've seen from the Jazz front office. Horrific mismanagement.

The Jazz weren't keeping Rayjon. They don't have a roster spot for him. So they cleared him off their books. The end.

Rather than save a million or two on those deals we are gonna go with 13 guys and try to duck the tax by a few thousand dollars?

Or ya could just ****ing move Conley..... or just not use full MLE and sign a minimum backup... there are plenty out there. They just seem to be zig zagging and are all over the place. Gonna put it in ownership.

They could have released him without giving up a pick and they didn't because someone they paid to count couldn't count and that's idiotic. The end.
