And, just for fun, do either of you disagree with me? Is it uncommon to hear Mormons making unfair generalizations about non-Mormons in church? Is it uncommon for Mormons to make the distinction between the membership and the church (that is, something along the lines of "the church is perfect, but the members aren't")? I didn't say anything particularly inflammatory about the church (or its members). In fact, the only direct statement I made about the church in this thread was complimentary.

Yes, you never said any of it. Have you ever heard me talking about non-mormons? Or Colton? That is a blanket statement, and it is stereotyping, and it is false. It is probably true for some mormons, but no where near enough to justify labeling the entire group. It is exactly what you claimed not to have said.

No question there are some tool Mormons in that context. I don't think it's as rampant as you think it is and I don't think it's fair to generalize that behavior across a whole religion. That's the beef here. I can count on one hand the times I've heard a Mormon legitimately make broad generalizations about non-Mormons. Not saying those folks don't exist. Maybe there's a bunch of em but I doubt it. I don't even think they're a vocal minority. I haven't run into them much at all. But you're welcome to your opinion on that but I think it's pretty slamming to just paint the whole group like you have. Smacks of some serious bitterness.

For example, in my experiences with inactives they are almost 100% bitter to some degree. But I'm not going to paint all inactives as bitter over anectdotal evidence.

It wouldn't be very good for me anyway as most of my friends are non-LDS/inactive.

Something else though and maybe this is more where you were going is that I think there are plenty of Mormons that look down on non-Mormons. I don't think it's even close to a majority but definitely folks out there you just get a feel for that maybe don't directly slam non-LDS but you just get a feel for them.

Whatever, I'll never be close enough to perfect to take that stance anyway.

So to tie up this rambling post and to answer your questions I'd say it's very uncommon to hear Mormons making unfair generalizaitons about non-LDS and also uncommon for Mormons to claim being a member somehow makes them perfect. All my opinion and mostly based off my experiences.

Dude your time of the month is anytime you post. Granted the Internet doesn't translate well but you sure come across as aggravated a lot of the time. You don't seem that way in person so it's probably just an Internet thing.

I don't think I said anything inaccurate or dismissive. It was clear I was making a generalization that doesn't apply to all Mormons. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be admitting to and apologizing for.

Again, my entry into this thread was because of a post that could have been implying that ALL non-religious people are selfish. I qualified that statement, stating that if Jazzspazz were only talking about himself personally, he could ignore what I said.

When I was in Young Mens, there was always a lot of talk about how unhappy non-Mormons were. How they were yearning deep inside for the truth. That Mormons had some sort of monopoly on true happiness.

I also recall several times people making (unsubstantiated..with reference to vague statistics) comments about how just about all Mormons who leave the church do so while still having a testimony of the Book of Mormon, etc., and only leave because they've been offended or want to sin. I've had friends who've more or less told me that I still believe, and will be back some day. It makes it extremely difficult to be friends with anyone I knew when I was Mormon. Oh well.

I'm not going to address those same friends with statements like "you'll come to your senses some day, and leave the church". That would be a total dick move.
