Rebel Yell

So I had to be a . . . . . well. . . . donkey. .. ., yesterday. My wife and her sister, yammering about my nephew who has gone to live with his dad.

I swear, if I was a kid to either of them, I'd be gone, too.

Good kid, was getting mostly A grades, planning to go to medical school eventually so he wouldn't have to be a grease monkey like his folks. Literally dreamed of having a respectable job in the upper middle somewhere, that didn't involve taking a bath in goop at the end of the day. Already a proficient repair serviceman who could easily earn a decent living.

Religious kid, when he was twelve he prayed for his pup with parvo, and cared for it, and beat the odds. Even vets lose nine out of ten parvo pups.

Started quarreling with mom when he was sixteen. No ordinary mom, mind you, a real battle axe. She bragged about how no man could handle a real "Prideful Family Name Here" woman. Her grandmother left an imprint on generations of (PFNH} women, teaching them to play the piano and feign helplessness in general. Grandma told her daughters that men would just abuse them and let them do all the work if they caved, and let out the secret that there was actual competence inside. But, incongruously, with temper tantrums, near bp mood swings as needed to achieve compliance, and acid language. And the looks to make it plausibly worthwhile to some to live with all that, even if "No man can be allowed to "win"."

The underground railroad dad is said to be immoral, hooked on porn, and a deadbeat in every known relevant measure. And allegedly wants his kid to take over his business and do all the work, so he can spend more time and money drinking. (And, it seems, perhaps a tad more respectable than I am. Nothing can ever be as inexcuseable as a rebel who just won't comply with power-conscious hijackers of any form of government.)

A real poster child for "there is NO excuse for this, not even a Woman."

So with four credits short of high school graduation, the kid is supposedly taking dad's advice, and just going straigt to HV/AC school so they can have a business in Phoenix.

Now I've done my level best to paint both parents in the worst possible or even imaginable light, but I do think brevity demands the concise description of the problem.

I consider the rebel to be a perfectly fine, normal male at the age of independence. Anybody know how to reach this kid, and re-connect him with his own dream??????

So I shot my wad, and literally mocked the women for their conspiratorial plans and techniques on how to manage to recapture the flown bird. Said nothing they could do would work, and that it'd be best if they just didn't even try, and loved the kid regardless.

...And Babe turns a corner... A child opts out of the socialist, indoctrinating, God hating, gay loving school system to strike out on his own like a true American and you have a problem with it?

At first blush, you've got me dead to rights.

If only you could conceive of matriarchs who can make that "socialist, indoctrinationg, God hating, gay loving school system" look like pristine liberty. And believe me, I haven't missed the point that that kid, without even a GED, can bring home more bacon== or anything else he wants=== than any of his peers who are plodding the path appointed by the needy industrialists striving for true cartel immortality, by the eternal method of reducing all competitors to rags, if not dungeons, if not mass graves.

However, this kid has potential. He could sail through college, get an advanced degree, and maybe prove fatal to some bureaucracy someday, just blowing away the cobwebs and not going along with something that doesn't really need going along with.

I've been thinking a lot about chemotherapy lately. At least one oncologist is aggravated by my logic. So on a societal level, we could view government gone metastatic and growing without control, so what we need to do is poison the system with competent people who don't have to just keep a stupid job, who'll stop those cancers from growing. Competent rebels in every government outpost.

No, Franklin. We need this kid to get his "credentials" or "union cards" to "fit in", sorta, and then rebel.

Well, on the other hand, in five years he could be a multimillionaire with a wad of cash to underwrite my campaign, too.

Snorefest warning.

I get all that, babe, but I don't have much of an answer for you. I can only relate to myself as a kid and tell you what I did.

I graduated late and moved on to college because that's what everyone told me was the way to go. My best friend growing up dropped out in 9th grade. My high school friends all dropped out. My post-highschool friends who mostly came from my full time highschool production job had already dropped out. I graduated late and went to college on the good graces of the college.

I had a different drive keeping me in the system for two things these fellows did not. 1 was growing up in extreme poverty with parents who refused welfare. 2 was an indoctrination that kept me thinking I was thinking for myself while not actually doing so (and they say indoctrinating has no benefit).

Bottom line is I don't know what drives teens other than their parents in various odd and unexplainable ways. My best friend growing up would take much less than your pal has already calculated. I have other union or hard work oriented friends who would consider this kid noble. And then I have me who is risk averse and thinks a fall back plan is important.

In all serious, if you want to reach the kid then buy him a bunch of beer and invite me over to drink it with him. We'll get ****loaded and I may talk some sense into him... and possibly his drunk father too. I have my doubts many could reach him, but I could always kick his *** at the end of the night for not listening.

Kid probably doesn't drink, even around his dad. Kinda stubborn, like. He probably figures he needs some experience on the business end, and will put up with dad for getting a business set up, and sorta edge him on out once he's got something going. Let sleeping dogs lie, let drunks soak in their vomit and piss, just get up and out there doing something, and keep a lot of cash in your pocket nobody else knows about. I'd probably give my right arm for a kid like that. But instead of drinking up his profits, I'd actually help him get things rolling.

Wow... I see myself so much in this.

I don't drink.

I get mostly A's and want to go to Medical School.

My mom doesn't want me to go to Medical School.

I am religious.

My parents aren't religious (although my dad doesn't seem as bad as his dad, doesn't look at porn or anything at least I hope not)

My dog had parvo and survived.

Dad works in Phoenix in a physical job.

Only difference is I am not a good kid MUHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Also Babe you have a wife??? I always imagened you as a girl....

Now I have to imagen you as this l_66416_0120595_2fd1821a.jpg

Yes, babe the shepherd piglet pretty much sums up most of my persona. In real life, I'm more of a farmer Hoggett.

But here is the real source of my proud name:

He'll figure out what a dick his dad is sooner or later, then he will get himself back on track. If he really is as good a kid as you say he is things will work themselves out.
