Reddick offer helps Jazz?

only reason jazz fan like redick is cuz he is white..He is an undersized 2 with no ball handling ability and is liablity on defense..Put it this way hius d makes boozwer look like rodman...Only one team has won a chip with a dukie on the bench and he was deep on the bench...Coach k does not prep his players for the big boy league..

Speaking from ignorance always makes the speaker look like a fool.

There are plenty of Coach K players that have succeeded in NBA.

Reddick does many things well. He also is a player that works very well in a disciplined offense. He has his defensive limitations but overall he is a good option off the bench. That said 3 years for 21 is crazy money for Reddick.

And I for one would love to see Gortat in Jazz uniform. He contract is reasonable and he is a legit big.

Rich Bucher is a pretty good NBA guy with good sources and he says the Magic are matching.

This is PERFECT for Utah because with Orlando already past the tax threshold, they'll most certainly be looking to dump Gortat and bring nothing back in return. IMO, that makes Utah a very likely spot for Gortat. However, what I don't like is if Orlando takes the full 7 days to match the Reddick offer.

It freezes up what the Jazz can do for another week and we'll most likely see no other moves until they find out if they can snag him. However, I think it's worth the wait and would be a coup to get Gortat in a Jazz uni. A young, honest-to-goodness center who can fill some definite needs for Utah.

If the Jazz are able to get him and they also get a decent back-up for Millsap, I don't really see why this team has to go "backwards" as some in here have mentioned.....
 
This is great news! Gortat would be able to step in immediately for the Jazz and we wouldn't have to watch Fes try and pretend to be a starter in the NBA. Now the jazz would really make me happy and bring in Haslem or Bass to help fill out the roster, and then most definitely SIGN MATTHEWS! And yes jazzman12 the Jazz would be just fine!

Gortat's Per48 stats are pretty impressive. Just over 13 points per and just under 15 rebounds. I also think that scoring average would climb signifigantly were he to come to Utah as a starter and actually get steady playing time with a team who shares the ball as good or better than any other team in the NBA.

What could be really exciting (but not likely) is that Utah could try and pry both Gortat and Bass away from Orlando for the Boozer TPE. If I'm not mistaken, you can use the TPE on more than just 1 player as long as you don't exceed the allowable salary. Gortat and Bass combine to take up 10.3 million of cap space for Orlando. If they sent them both to Utah, that saves them a total of 20.6 million come luxury tax time. That's a big enough figure to make you at least wonder if Orlando would consider it, but I just don't see them letting both players go. However, Orlando is already almost $9 million over the tax threashold and if they match the Reddick offer it puts them about 12-to13 over. Perhaps they feel moving $10 million of that all at once is too good to pass up and find another PF for a portion of their MLE to eat up Bass' 13 minutes per night.

Could the Jazz sweeten the deal? I know players aren't allowed to be included in TPE trades, but could the Jazz throw in a future draft pick? If they could, I would make an offer for both and throw in the Memphis pick. IMO, adding Gortat and Bass would make this team better than it was a year ago and doesn't comprimise our future by bringing in older stop-gaps with bad contracts.

Yes. Don't use the 13M trade exception to get both Gortat AND Bass. Don't want Bass. AK is terrific backup PF. Jazz need at C is more crucial than a backup for Millsap, especially until Memo comes back. That way Jazz only use the Harp exception to get Gortat, and can hold onto the Boozer exception for something of greater value than a backup PF.
Only hole I see there is backup PG -- wish we still had Maynor. ...I wonder if Dee's gotten better?

Yes, I do believe Utah is better. Here's why I think so:

-I think Hayward already has a more well-rounded NBA game than Korver did. Don't get me wrong, I loved Korver but he was about as one dimensional as they come.

-I think so much of Gortat that I think we're better with him starting as opposed to Memo. I see no way that Memo is ready for the first of the year, but when he does return, having him come off the bench adds a nice little dimension to Utah's 2nd unit that wasn't there before.


-I will maintain that I don't think we lose much, if anything with Millsap starting at the 4 and by adding Bass as his back-up is about as good as we could hope for at this point. I will admit that under this scenario we are a little worse at the 4 than the previous year but I don't think the drop-off would be as big as some would like to believe and I think the overall improvement of the team would negate this.

-CJ showed improvement last year and I think he still hasn't hit his ceiling so I expect him to be even a little better this year. I also feel like 2010 Wes Matthews will be better than 2009 Wes Matthews.

-I also think it's fair to say that D-Will has yet to hit his ceiling so I don't see why he won't be an improved version of himself going into 2010. I'm still not too excited with Price and Gaines as back-ups but that's something we'll probably just have to live with for another year.
