Report: Gordon Hayward, Utah Jazz discussing contract extension

???

Now I'm pretty certain you at least have an Asian wife, or may be it's your brother, or a cousin.

The thing is if we can, we have to give enes a contract if not he will get the max next year from jazz. give him 4/44 he can't refuse it

One thing to consider is the timing of the signings. What is the cap hold for each as RFA's? Jazz might be better off using their cap space to acquire FA's or take on players in a GS-like deal before they re-sign Hayward or Favors (or match offers for them). If they re-sign them first, that would severely limit what they could do in free agency.

I think extending Favors/Hayward should be top priority cause we're not going to sign with significant FA's in about 2-3 years anyways in rebuilding process. After extending their contract year by year when this team showes the flashes that they can compete in high level then we can go for not garbage but quality FA's who can make some contributions for higher goals, like all the contender teams doing right now.

Sanders is a good comp to Favors. But if you play Favors the same amount of minutes that Sanders is getting Favors will outperform him. Favors is on a different planet physically. I think a lot of people will be surprised by the way he develops this year.

As far as Hayward goes, I really believe that guy is legit. I think there's 20+ teams that would sign him today for 9-10 mil. So if the jazz can lock him up in that range long-term I think they jump on it. .

Sanders lead the NBA in FG% defense around the rim. Even in the limited minutes that Favors has received he wasn't close to Sanders in that regard.

Good posts.
I concur on the belated welcome Myjazz.

I guess only time will tell us if we can get Favors for less than 12mil either by extension or by matching. I agree that it is doubtful he will sign for much less than that. I also think that if the money works out the same that I think the Jazz should extend him for reasons not necessarily monetary in nature... but could end up paying off. Give him the extension now, offer 11 per, let him talk you into 12 so he and his agent feel like they won something. I can tell you that at any level of work you will get better results from an "employee" if that employee knows you want them on your team and support them. Just my 2 cents

I concur.

I could be wrong on this but I think the cap holds will be worse than the actual contract.

Per ShamSports.com, the cap holds for Gordo and Favors are:

Favors: $12,016,392

Gordo: $8,630,458

So...signing the two to extensions shouldn't significantly affect the Jazz's 2014 cap space.

I was wrong. Thanks for clearing that up GVC. Way to use the internet.
