I think Ochai is a 3&D prospect who is suspect in both areas. I think if he was already solid in those areas, he wouldn't be beaten out by guys who are also suspect in both areas.

As a rookie who has already switched teams and schemes, he'll have a long leash from me.

the character of the kid matters as well. Ochai is a high character kid and a hard worker. If there is an NBA player in there I'm confident he will find it.

Not sure what makes you think he was "beaten out " by anyone this soon in the season. He is a rookie and will have to work for it harder just like most rookies on teams with veterans ahead of them. He was not a top 10 pick that gets minutes gifted because his ceiling is higher than anyone else or something.
I think he gets plenty of opportunity to adjust to the speed of the game and improve his ability to create offense, whereas right now he is a catch and shoot threat and a unproven defender, but at least one that showed good defensive awareness and athletic ability to play switch defense easily.

I mean he wasn't even in Cleveland for a cup of coffee, he is going to get plenty of opportunities on this team as the season goes on, and I would love to see him work on his ability or lack thereof to create more offense so I would bring him off the bench this season while he does that.

I think this FO has zero reason to rush him. They've got him under team control on cheapo rookie contract for four years. Gives them plenty of time to give him minutes yet let guys like Beasley get some minutes and maybe squeeze a future first out of a team that thinks he can contribute ASAP or gain flexibility heading into next year's FA pool.

Didn't know where to put this... but this is the sneaky side benefit of tanking. Lowering the payroll and getting a tax distribution will help the bottom line more than the lack of wins hurts attendance etc. By tearing it down I think we saved like $50-60M this year.

The fact that he's behind NAW and THT in the rotation. I don't know it could possibly be more clear at this point that he's behind those guys. In fact, I cannot think of a reasonable argument to think otherwise. If you have an argument that he is in fact ahead of NAW and THT I'd love to hear it, but to me I cannot think of a single reason to think that he has not been beaten out for minutes by those two. It doesn't mean he's behind them for eternity, but he's pretty clearly behind them right now.

Yep and some teams such as the Warriors and Clips will have enormous tax bills for the foreseeable future. Under the cap teams will obviously share in the distribution. It's fine as long as Smith is willing to invest big money in the Jazz again once they are ready to compete in the playoffs again.

Even if they were performing equally in practice the tie usually goes to the guys with nba experience. It’s a weird situation cuz all three guys are trying to establish their nba value. Ochai has the most runway so it makes sense he gets the backseat… front office and coaching staff have 4 years to figure out what they have. NAW and THT only have 1 and probably 2 years respectively. If it was just based on performance in game I don’t think NAW would be ahead of anyone. THT has had some moments.

I expect Ochai to get 15-20 minutes a night after the AS break or as soon as we make a move to thin the roster. I’m not worried about him at all.
