Rest Easy, The Jazz Will Be Awful

I foresee a 21 or 22-win season and a bottom-3 record in the league. The Spurs are better than us (with Poeltl, Johnson and Vassell), and Popovic is just not wired to not be competitive. I think the Jazz are going to duck them.

Houston is better than the Jazz as well. Green, Eason, Smith, Sengun and a big lead guard in Kevin Porter Jr. are a nice young group.

The Jazz are basically in the same shape as the Rockets two seasons ago when James Harden showed up wearing a fat suit. The Jazz have a few guys who can play, but they don't really fit together in any coherent ensemble at all. They don't have anyone to play through offensively unless Markkanen somehow evolves into a triple-threat guy instead of purely a play finisher. I think you're going to continue to see the ball in the hands of NAW and THT trying to create something. Clarkson and Beasley are probably going to chuck. All Conley can do is decide whose turn it is.

Defense is going to be bottom-10, despite Vanderbilt playing like a spazz, and the offense is going to be pretty below average as well.

I think one of the underreported stories of the pre-season is that the Jazz's 4-year college player and lottery pick Ochai Agbaji couldn't break the rotation. Nickeil shot 1/14 in four pre-season games, he generally wasn't very effecive, and Agbaji only subbed in for him once for a few minutes when Nickeil had some early foul trouble. Agbaji is 22, which is on the older side for a rookie. Let's hope he can play some.

I still think we will show we can be quite good ...for 3 quarters, then put our dream tanking team early in the fourth and blow 10 points lead ( this is a Utah trade mark).... then we can still keep our good players in action ( and sale some of them) and finish bottom 3.

When you look at the waiver wire, you realize just how many guys there are out there and furthermore realize that guys like Butler aren't going to have a huge market.

He's fine. They making him earn it... as much as I think NAW is not good at basketball I think he is likely one of the hardest workers and best teammates by all accounts. So he likely gets the nod in the rotation for now.

Ochai is not the guy I'd have taken in the lotto but he will be a rotation wing at very least. I'd have had him a few spots lower but he should be a mid quality 3 and D wing.

Agreed. Eason was sitting there for the taking. Can't really argue much considering it was another FO that made the pick. For whatever reason Kansas players haven't had a ton of success in the NBA although Wiggins finally figured it out. Agbaji is too good a shooter so assume he will eventually settle in as a roleplayer similar to a Danny Green type. It took Green a few seasons to establish himself even though he was a 4 year college player too.

The Jazz roster is still good enough to win 30 games IMO. With guys like Clarkson, Sexton, Beasley, we are either going to shoot ourselves into games or shoot us out of them. This team is not devoid of talent, but I can't help but think that Danny will hope to net an asset out of Beasley, JC or someone else if it all possible before the break.

I'm not convinced that this team is looking at a bottom five pick right now. I could firmly see us finishing somewhere in the #8 - #10 lottery range.
