Rethinking a PG in 2012 draft

I'm more pro Harris than most here, imo. However, here are quotes from Day 1 and 2 of the Addidas Nations.

Day 1
Marquis Teague flashed an absolutely nasty handle during his match up with Damian Lillard. Teague is the most interesting point guard here and has a good shot to follow in the footsteps of the Calipari PGs before him (Rose, Tyreke, Wall and Knight) and become a top 10 pick.

Day 2
Marquis Teague has been the best college guard by a long shot. He's shown the ability to find teammates on the break, he handles the ball on a string, and his strength allows him to finish in the paint. At times he got a little erratic going for flashy plays and making turnovers but displayed some solid playmaking skills for others, which seems to be the biggest debate over his long term potential.

If we only end up with one pick, and our preferred SF's are off the table then, Teague would be splendid option. I think he'll be better than Knight in college and the pros.

I was assuming two picks (I know). IF we do, I think we have a good shot at both Teague and an elite SF .. dependent upon how draft order is determined.

I think it's better to package 2 picks for a higher pick and go after SF

Without knowing what our two spots are, I'd have to withhold opinion. Having said that, I suspect I will disagree as this is such a deep draft (especially SF's) and we could be giving up too much for too little ... tradeable asset, at least.

Agreed.

That is also assuming someone would want to trade with us. Its not like KOC can just snap his fingers and make someone accept a trade.

No need for a PG--already got Captain Harris.
Select the best player available, if it's a bad fit, trade it for an upgrade that fits.
If the PG prospect is just a stud and is established as a can't-miss prospect (LeBron James type hype) then you take him and move Devin to SG, he's versatile.

I think you have to take a PG with your highest pick reguardless. We already have our potential 2,3,4,5 ( and anyone of them can turn into an AllStar) now lets get our leader and row with it!

No. Waaay too much talent to dismiss BPA and just take PG.

While I can see where you are coming from, the 2012 class is so loaded the Jazz need to approach it a little differently. Assuming the Jazz only have one pick and are drafting around the same spot (12), it has to be 80% weighted on BPA, and 20% on need, where as in most years its probably 50/50 when your drafting at that spot.

I originally thought two picks would be a lock but with the entire NBA season now in jeopardy it looks unlikely. If that happened Stern would probably do something similar to the NHL that took an average of the last three years. If this happens Minny obviously gets the Jazz non lottery pick, and the GS pick is ours at 8 I think. If Stern takes the last 4 years average, the GS becomes a top 7 pick and we miss out on both. Not fun to think about.

Yeah that would be dumb and I really hope there's a season! Stupid millionares and billionares, can't we all just get a long and get something done? Lol, I'd play for 50,000 :)

With deep draft two lottery picks (likely to happen) worth even more. We have too much rookies to hold both picks.
