How many of you believe that this move means that another move/trade is coming?
I think it's clear that the FO believes our outside shooting cost us big time last year. They have made a real effort to go out and get proven shooters.
Why would it bite me in the ***?
Isn't the best case scenario that Burks, Hayward, and our other young players play so well that we barely need Foye?
See Howard last year.
Foye is supposedly a pretty good defender also.
We needed a wing who can shoot. Jazz offense is PG, wing, big. Might be an issue defensively if Foye plays with Burks, but that will be against lower competition (bench players).
Please expand. Marvin is the 3 who can shoot. Are last year's perimeter figures quite possibly an outlier? Of course. But he pretty much brings what we needed. Perimeter shooting (hopefully), length, solid defense. Who did you want?
What is the problem if Burks and Foye can only play the 2? Obviously flexibility helps but it's not always a necessity. And quite frankly, Burks can play more than just the 2 at times. Didn't Corbin already say he was going to play him some at the 1 this year? And his length is better than Hayward's so I see no reason he can't play some 3 in certain, albeit rare, situations when we go smallball. Again, Burks is a 2 80-90% of the time for me but he has some wiggle room there. If you believe this to be false, who did you want? And our wings are not great, no doubt. But what do you mean when you say they're mismatched?
I have been saying most offseason that backup PG is the Jazz's weakest position. This signing makes sense to me as it addresses both backup PG and depth at the wings.
So good signing imo because I believe Foye is an upgrade over Watson and Tinsley.
If the offense is run through Hayward/Burks more often this season (as they did with Burks for the SL games down the stretch of at least 2 games) then Foye is really playing SG and guarding PG's. With Burks or Hayward playing PG on offense and SG on defense. I don't see his playmaking as that bad of a deal if the offense is able to run through the SG spot. Foye in that role is far superior to Watson or Tinsley as he's a far better shooter. He hasn't played any 1 for the last 2 years and his numbers at the position per 82 games in Minny were pretty poor. The one glimmer of hope is he posted solid numbers there in Washington.
As bad offensively as Watson/Tinsley are, I find it doubtful that Foye can play the position better than they can. But I'll guess we'll see.
