Roster question?

About a week ago Jake Fischer mentioned on his podcast that Bolmoro's name has come up in trade rumors lately. If any end of bench guys need to be moved, he'll likely be the first to go. Kind of a shame because I like his overall game, though his shooting and finishing at the rim need a lot of work.
Yeah, agreed. I've bought into the 6-6 PG with very good defense hype. But, and it pains me to say, he's just so far from being a threat on offense that I won't be surprised if the Jazz don't see anything there in him.

I suspect that trader Dan is looking for a three or four for one trade. OKC is in the same numbers spot the Jazz are. The Cavs might be a likely partner in an endeavor like this. They held a veteran's free agent camp this week looking for training camp invitees.
I went looking at contracts around the league that might even work in these kind of deals. There's virtually none left in the league that are imaginable besides Westbrook's. Cavs have Love's contract, but they like what he brings and I think he's finally expiring. They'll see no need to get off his contract.

Still a number of trades in the Jazz future. Have to think that JB, Stanley Johnson and NAW would all be on the hot seat because they’re on relatively cheap, expiring contracts. I’d imagine that the Jazz would try to trade them into somebody’s cap space or a trade exception before just cutting them loose.
Sure, they'll try that. I just don't see a lot of realistic options. Most teams with either cap space or exceptions aren't looking to add players at this point, much less one of these guys, I suspect -- maybe Johnson as he can at least perform in a low usage role and bring defensive value. Guess we'll see, but it won't surprise me at all if we have to end up just waiving two or more (if other trades are made) players before the season starts.

Coaching staff loved him in SL because of his defense primarily but also his handle and facilitating. Pretty sure he’ll get some minutes at the one this year. Obviously needs to work on his shooting.
I sort of want to believe you here to justify my initial enthusiasm for him, but I didn't hear anything like this (at least to the extent of "loved"). What are you basing this off of?

Ehh. I'm not sure he'll be on the first list of guys to go. I don't see a scenario where the Jazz get equal value, but if he goes they'll get something of value in the process. You don't just get rid of dudes his size with a unique skillset and on a rookie contract.

Axing Rudy Gay and Doke would be fairly easy.

Yeah, Gay should definitely be the first one on the chopping block. With only two true centers on the roster, I think they'll likely hold onto Dok for now.

Simply playing time, mostly de-facto floor general. I believe he played in every game unlike some, and generally big minutes.

I have a different interpretation.

Whenever Butler was on the floor, Butler was the main PG. I was actually disappointed that we didn't see more of Bolmaro at PG in the summer league (though there was some). My inclination was to think that the Jazz don't really believe in him at PG.

He didn't play in SLC because of the timing of the trade. So I think playing in Vegas every time was more of a function of him not needing the same break as the others (and if I recall, the Jazz were on a steady every-other-day schedule in Vegas).

He better have played big minutes. He was a first-round draft choice just a year ago and was just a part of a big trade. There was nobody else that was a higher priority for the Jazz in needing to see what he brought.

I don't think any of this adds up to the idea that they loved him.

I think the Jazz have 17 guaranteed contracts. If a couple of players become injured in preseason can they be put on injured reserve and not count against the roster or would the Jazz still have to waive a couple of players?

Somebody said 18 sans two ways and he’s the 18th guy, even if it is exhibit 10.
Somebody was wrong, I believe.

Haven't they signed more than just Bass to Exhibit 10s? I thought Morsell, Jeenathan Williams and Cockburn were also there. But that would be more than the 20 allowed in the offseason with the 17 guaranteed contracts. Maybe they've cut one already? In any case, I'd be surprised if Bass was the only Exhibit 10 currently held by the Jazz.

Players on injured reserve still count against the roster limit (unless you get a special waiver from the NBA; but that's only if you have multiple and/or year-ending injuries). I'm not sure it's technically even true any more to say that the NBA has an injured reserve category.

Think what what you will, but I think the fact that he was #2 in playing time to Butler means they saw something in him. He played almost as many minutes as Butler (26.8 - 27.1) He was the best defender on that team IMO.

Maybe @Release the Kraken is right and I'm the wrong one. This list from a few days ago only lists Bass.

I swear that right after the draft the Jazz signed a boatload of guys to Exhibit 10s that included Kofi, the Georgia Tech Wing, Jeenathan, Moresell and others. But the roster then included Rudy and DM. Perhaps Bass is the only one they will bring to camp and all the others will play for the Stars.

I have the same recollection. I know that the Georgia Tech guy accepted a Euro offer, so he's no longer in play. But I haven't heard anything about Jeenathan or Morsell or Kofi. If you just google their names today, it says that Jeenathan is with the Jazz. The other two don't say that. Even Bass doesn't show that he's with the Jazz. I don't know what to make of it -- probably nothing. Jazz probably won't publicize anything in particular until camp starts.
