What's new

Royce ONeal

But Summer League is designed for guys like him. Look at the players Memphis used last night.
Royce was starting for a playoff team in the second round. He’s crossed a threshold where more SL isn’t what’s helpful for his development. It’s nice to see him around, though, and that matters a lot more.

Royce and Donovan are both solid rotational players. Why risk injury in a venue that you can’t control? There’s no reason to do that. As far as I’m concerned, the Jazz are simply having a training camp to determine who will play for the SLC Stars this year.

Royce is 25 and on a NBA contract. Those guys don't go to SL. I'm not even sure he would look good in SL.
I tend to agree with your last sentence. His game, at least on offense is built on having attention on better players, getting open looks from three or attacking close outs because Mitchell or Rubio has found him open.

Its one reason i think Kelan Martin could be a more useful player on the actual roster than summer league with his defense and ability to knock down open looks.

Royce was pretty garbage last year in SL for the Pelicans, at least stat wise.

That's fine if the Jazz FO is truly sold on him. But the guy is not a complete player yet. SL is a place you can work on things. I could see a SL guy stealing his roster spot if he stinks up preseason.

I’d rather the Jazz use SL as they are. Brand new rookies and guys they are trying to get first looks at.

No need to waste a spot on Royce.

Why isn't he playing Summer League? Is he injured?

Niang told him to stay the eff away... this is his damn show... even told Grayson you can play in one game but you sitting the next one out... it’s my time.

Georges is a savage... get on board or flee... either way we are all under his control now.

Dude. Royce was undrafted and playing in Europe. He got lucky that DL's kid went to Baylor and Burks decided to disappear for much of the season. Last I checked, Royce didn't make 1st team all NBA.
The dude was throwing down dunks against 65 win teams in the conference semifinals.

When will people around here appreciate Royce?

Working on your game is what preseason is for. Hard to do when 99.9% of the guys you’re playing with won’t be on the team, and SL is always so chaotic. SL is for someone trying to familiarize themselves with the nuances and speed of the nba game. Royce clearly has that down.

My idiot list don’t lie.

Like Cy said, Royce isn’t the type of player that shines in SL, and last year proved that as he wasn’t good at all.
