Royce O'Neale Over Bolomboy

He's literally not playing the 4 in even one of those plays.

Well, Royce is being guarded by PJ Tucker and Gerald Green both of whom play the power forward position for the Rockets. When it's not them, he's facing defense from Nene and Clint Capela (both centers) - so what position do you think he is literally playing in that game?

Jazz lineups included:

1. Gobert, O'Neale, Crowder, Mitchell and Ingles. (Crowder being "guarded" by Harden)
2. Favors, O'Neale, Korver, Ingles and Rubio.
3. Gobert, O'Neale, Crowder, Mitchell and Rubio. (Crowder being "guarded" by Chris Paul)
4. Favors, O'Neale, Sefolosha, Mitchell and Ingles.

What makes you so certain that Royce wasn't playing power forward, especially given that in Qiun's system, the 3 and 4 spots are practically interchangeable?

6-6 = 6-8 ?
Carroll is just over 6’6” without shoes and about 215 lbs.

I think Royce is about 6’5” without shoes and weighs between 220 and 225 lbs.

Both guys have 6’10” wingspans.

I’d say that they’re close enough in size and style of play for it to be comparable.

A 6-6 guy can probably guard a 6-8 guy without too much problem. But when trying to guard a 6-10 or 6-11 guy, that could be a different issue.

I'm not trying to say that Royce can't function well at the PF, but he is overcoming some size disadvantages. I don't think there's any point in trying to imagine that they don't exist.

Royce is at best average sized for the 3 (average perhaps only in weight, but short for an average 3). He's basically Dante Exum or Alec Burks with a bit more heft and a fair more amount of inside toughness. But he's nowhere near as heavy and strong as a Crowder or a PJ Tucker.

If he succeeds at the 4, nonetheless, great. But he's not what we normally think of as sufficient size for the 4. I think it will be best if, like the rest of the Jazz's PFs, he spends only some time at the position so as not to demand more of his body than is fair.
