What's new

Rudy Gobert 5 years, $205M

It's a ton of money but I'm very relieved to have him locked up for the next few years. I still don't think a lot of people realize just how valuable he is. I was really worried about having another Hayward situation where he walks and we get absolutely nothing for him. I also don't think we would have gotten anywhere near what he's worth back in a trade, especially since he only had one year left on his contract.

What makes the Jazz unique is Rudy. There’s plenty of high usage 2 guards out there who haven’t even made the playoffs once in their career. I get certain styles of play are more sexy, and it would be nice if Rudy was better at some things, but he’s very good.

Just a slightly minor overpay(around 2 mil per year) for a guy that changed the franchise history. Installed a defensive system. Made Quin a defensive coach while he was known only as offensive coach and makes everyone better on offense.

If Gobert was a Pg that makes everyone better with the same +/-, you would have fan pages and a Lopo trade thread everywhere.

Go Rudy, all love.

Rudy is far and away the most loyal player to the franchise since Stockton and Malone. And that I will appreciate him for forever. Y’all realize he could have went and got a max deal from Dallas and played with KP and Luka right?

Don signs a max with a 5th year player option and he is looking to leave. Rudy signs for more than the max with a 5th year player option and he's the 3rd most loyal Jazz man ever.

You crack my *** up.

YES. Because the two situations are in no way similar and I’m not going through why again because we all know. Notice how Don didn’t ever even acknowledge his extension publicly? And is one of the only players who hasn’t publicly congratulated Rudy? Now, is it really like him to not do the whole PR thing? I love how he couldn’t even muster up a “thank you I’m happy to be here for the next 5 years” BS PR post that he’s so known for. He has a foot out the door so enjoy the next few years everyone. And appreciate the guy who actually wants to be here and appreciates it.

We don’t need that. Let him space the floor by keeping people trying to disrupt the lob, opening up the perimeter. What we need is him to be the beast on defense that impacts every game on a consistent basis. That’s what takes us to the next level. We didn’t need AK to “work on his jumpshot,” we needed him to let more efficient guys score and him keep the energy and do the dirty work. I want Rudy getting high percentage lobs and putbacks.
While I agree, Gobert has also put work into being able to take a couple of dribbles before his dunk, forcing the defense to keep a body between him and the basket as well.
