Rudy... sigh.

Am I the only one that is sick of seeing Rudy posting up against much smaller opponents (mouse in the house) and him just like flailing and trying to get a call? I mean, you're 7'ish go and dunk it you Nancy. Jesus christ where is your beast mode Rudy??

Welcome to modern day NBA. Rudy can’t get a call when he doesn’t overreact and gets creamed.

I used to watch basketball, any basketball on TV but can’t do it anymore. All I see is whistles, inability to play any defense and whining. Only strategy now is to jack up threes and flail or drive inside, run into guys and flail.

Gobert has not only been the Jazz’s best player this season, he’s one of the best players in the NBA. Here are some statistical categories that Gobert is ranked in the top ten among qualified NBA players this season.

1st- FG %

1st- eFG %

1st- True Shooting %

2nd- Offensive Rating

3rd- Win Shares

3rd- Defensive Box Plus/Minus

6th- Blocks per game

7th- Rebounds per game

This has been a career season for Gobert so far, and he’s doing his best to keep the Jazz afloat. If it weren’t for him, the Jazz would be lost in oblivion. He’s carrying the Jazz on his shoulders and willing them to wins, one game at a time, with the hope of getting back ahead in the win column and into playoff position. If we’ve learned anything from Rudy, you don’t ever, ever count him out.

I'm getting sick of seeing people say that Rudy is struggling or having a down year. (It's not a lot of people but at least 4 that I can think of)

The "Gobert effect" isn't on the offensive end. Anything we get from him there is just icing on the cake. It is blasphemous to question our without a doubt most impactful player.
This year net rating improvement on offense is higher than the net rating improvement in defense with Gobert on the court.

This has been mentioned before, but Rudy's ridiculous frame makes it really difficult for him to use his lower body to move even much smaller defenders in the post thanks to his high center of gravity.

I get its frustrating to watch, but it's just not his game.

It's no one's game save for a handful of players, and most of those players arent even good at it.

This year the only high possession (at least 4 per game) post-up players averaging over a point per possession in the post are Jokic, Embiid, Randle, and Ayton. Last year only 1 high possession post-player had above 1 PPP and that was KAT.

Gobert is at .86 PPP on 2 a game (which is way more than he had last year, .4 a game). He shoots really well out of the post (probably because the Jazz usually only post on deep post duck ins). He just turns it over a lot out of the post.

Yeah, there's a reason why the league as a whole has moved away from post play. My point has more to do with why Rudy in particular puts up weird fade away shots and gets put off balance more easily when he posts up.

This is a good point.
How many guys that are as tall and long as Rudy and as skinny as Rudy are good efficient post players?
I can't think of any but maybe someone else can.

Guys I think of that are sized like Rudy are mutumbo, DeAndre Jordan, manute bol, Shawn Bradley and none of them are worth anything in the post.

Rudy 2014 vs Rudy 2018:

HUGE IMPROVEMENT in the paint. He is now a threat for a lob, he has been seen sealing off his man and spinning for a dunk as recently as last night, he usually catches the ball, and his FT% has gone from pathetic to respectable.

Rudy 2018 vs Shaq 2000:

Laughable.

Clearly plenty of work to do down low but he is working on it and showing plenty of signs of improvement.

It happens all the time when you throw the ball to rudy, he will get an uncontested dunk, or go up weak and try to draw a foul rather than going up strong to make a bucket
