Rumor: Jazz want to - and can - acquire Milsap. May trade Favors in draft day deal.

Calm down everyone! The rumors are false. Jazz aren't looking to unload Favors to acquire Millsap. They are looking to unload RUDY to acquire Millsap....so everyone can rest easy now.

I've added to the original post in this thread in order to quell some of the confusion:

EDITED TO ADD: There seems to be confusion on this, so let me lay this out:

1. The Jazz would not be trading Favors for Millsap. Millsap is a free agent and there is apparently mutual interest between his camp and the Jazz at bringing him back to Utah.
2. If they did this, it's a sign that Lindsey and Snyder believe that the offense of a stretch-4 is more valuable than the defensive domination that Gobert/Favors provide.
3. The trade would be using Favors + 12 to move up in the draft to select someone they want. My guess is Porzingis, but that's just a hunch.
4. Millsap would then be brought in as a replacement to Favors while whatever draft pick they select develops alongside Exum and Gobert.
5. There's the very real potential this is a smokescreen. Reaching an agreement with Millsap and drafting accordingly breaks NBA's tampering laws, which isn't something the Jazz would do.
6. That begs the question: why would the Jazz be smokescreening, especially with the #12 pick.

An interesting take here from Steve Luhm, and this thought crossed my mind as well:

Hate to ask, but if the Jazz have already talked to Millsap about returning and draft accordingly, couldn't a case be made for tampering?

In other words - there's very real likelihood that this is a smokescreen.

The most likely culprit is Millsap's Uncle trying to create a bigger offer from Atlanta to retain Millsap by feigning interest from Utah. Although if Favors doesn't get traded, the rumor falls flat. On the other hand, Millsap's uncle isn't very astute. . .

You can only get busted for tampering if you are stupid enough to sign paperwork (like the idiot Timberwolves did.) Hasn't Greg Monroe all but guaranteed he is going to sign with New York? I think a player can make his wishes known. Trouble comes when a team starts getting into details on those wishes.

I'm not in favor of bringing Paul back, but the Jazz have a very easy way to circumvent the tampering rules. . . his brother is on the team. They can easily tell Elijah that they're interested in Paul and Paul's camp can tell Elijah that they'd consider the Jazz. . . without any rules being broken.

Not saying that's what has happened, but it's very easy to get around tampering rules with how players recruit each other during free agency. Telling Elijah that they want him to help them bring Paul back this summer could cover every leak that's come out so far. . . if it's not all just a smokescreen.

Snitch *** mother ****er......

I think this just goes to show how not in the know guys like Jody Gennesy are, and how much they do not know about basketball. There is seriously no reason to ever believe a word that comes out his mouth.

Jod Gennesy is either completely retarded, or trolling for attention. It's that simple. He has no clue.

When has there ever been a rumor about what the Jazz are going to do that comes true? Seems like every "rumor" about the Jazz is not true. Every player they say we are interested in the draft is not true, every trade rumor ends up not being true. Whenever the other teams leak rumors the Jazz cut off the deal and walk away.

I guess there could be a first. Although this seems silly and just someones opinion of what they think the Jazz should do to get better and they are reporting it.

If it goes down then the jazz should at least get to keep #12 pick

Not that I want Favors gone, but didn't a bunch of people mock me when I was like "Gobert, making Favors look expendable"?

If the Jazz trade Favs for Millsap, that definitely makes Utah the official loser of the DWill trade.
Why do people keep saying favors for millsap in a trade?

It has been stated clearly in this very thread that the jazz can't trade favors for a free agent (millsap)
