Say goodbye to Love

I wanted love on the jazz but not for anywhere near that amount.

I don't think it is a bad move at all.

1) it's Cleveland. They sports usually bottom feeders. BUCK THAT TREND

2) It's the leastern conference. Can KL carry you to the playoffs in the East without LBJ. YEP

3) Why force a rebuild early so that you can hurry in the decade of the Cavs being horrible? Try to keep as many fans interested as possible. Try to remain somewhat relevant. Try to hold onto a winning culture. Don't throw the franchise's newfound self respect down the toilet so easily.

4)There's going to be plenty of time to rebuild for Cleveland. They are going to get plenty of lottery picks. Prepare for that. Don't do it on the fly the year after making the finals with bad contracts still on the books. Rebuild post KL when you have had 4 years to prepare.

I get that but 4/120 is a lot... I think the max he’d get on the open market after this season is 4/100. He never plays a full season and may not be able find “Minnesota Kevin love”

They may luck out and find a desperate GM like the clips did but the downside on a deal like this far outweighs the upside.

They will pay 5/145 for the age 30-35 seasons of an injury prone player... kinda dangerous.

Offensively he's worth it, defensively, not so much.
But is his lack of defense that much of a big deal next to Gobert?

I am interested to see if he can get to or close to the level he was at with the wolves without LBJ, but then that doesn’t matter as he did little to ease the status of Min. Timberwolves.

They are already **** ed for at least the next 2 years.

HILL 19m
Thompson 18m
Smith 15m
Clarkson 13m

Might as well try to enjoy the next couple yeats. You don't want to give up assets to get out from under those guys and you can’t really do **** all til they are gone

Enjoy the next couple of years? As what? An 8 seed maybe? They should have torn it down it rebuilt with youth right now. Then in a few years when those guys came off of the books they'd have money to build around the young core that they would have in place.

Except Hill and Smith aren’t guaranteed for the second season so they are basically expiring. So they aren’t really effed, but yeah they should totally take the route of giving a **** ton of money to a guy who isn’t worth that much because they already gave a bunch of money to other guys that didn’t deserve it or took on bad contracts... it’s the only responsible thing to do.

A dumb team like Phoenix, NY, or Sacramento may bail them out and go for a big name. Like Detroit did last year, but if not this only delays a rebuild that needs to happen and turns a positive trade asset into a possibly toxic millstone.

It looks like DL has worked on getting us defensive players. Mitchell, Rudy, Allen, Rubio, Crowder, Ingles, Royce, Ekpe, Thabo, Exum...

...and keeping defensive guys like Favors around.

Love doesn't fit that mold and that's why I don't want him on the team. But I'm not surprised he got 30M a season - Denver had paid Millsap 30M a year too.

When Anthony Davis is up for a super max contract it's going to be wild.

Giannis too. That’s the one to build assets for. If they don’t pay him the mega max, I think he’s going to force his way out. Milwaukee is going nowhere fast - even with Bud on board.

I understand why the Cavs would do this but Love could have put himself on a contender for the next 4 yrs for $5Mil/yr less... its a pitty really.

Love's "bad" defense is overplayed, he is ok and trys hard. People forget Love was stuck on an island against Curry in 2016, final possession, game 7 and stayed in front of him. Dude isnt great but he is far from terrible.

Thread title Sounds like a bad song and the signing is an even worse desperation move by Cleveland. Love isnt a player you build around, nor is he the final piece to a championship team. That contract became toxic before the ink even dried.

True. I can't believe Giannis is still only 23. He's improved every season. Most athletic freaks (like him) don't possess his skill-set. If he keeps getting better and stays healthy he's going to an all-time great.
