Scab players

I don't think the owners would do this but I might be tempted to go and watch some scabs play the sport that I love. (at a reduced rate of course) but I. Was thinking it might be kind of fun to discuss who we would pay to see play. (on a second thought this isn't a strike so scabs could never happen this is a lockout)

The players aren't striking, so if the NBA opened their doors they would have to honor the contracts with the rest of the NBA players.

Now if it were the players striking instead of being locked out the NBA could hire replacement players.

I would be ok if we started over with new players. Start over with young hungry players who are willing to play for their contracts, and nothing else.
A lot of you wouldn't be down for this so I'm not sure it would survive.

What the owners need to do is give another ultimatum that they will shut the league down for 3-5 years if the players don't sign the agreement. That would essentially end the careers of most current players (Bryant and Garnett for sure and possibly Wade and LeBron?). I think once the players faced the possibility of having to go find a real job (one that only pays $30-$60K a year or go play overseas) I think they would sign in a minute.

There can't be any NBA operations wile a lockout is in place, let's make that clear. Why would you want to watch those scrubs play anyway?

...I like the new ultimate idea....but what McDonalds or KFC pays 30 grand a year....even for a manager??? Besides, most fast food places have "ink" policies that would disqualify about 80 percent of the players!

I think you're probably right, but how do the owners not have this option? If I start a small business and later shut it down due to losses, can my ex-employees sue me for damages? Can the courts step in and force me to remain in business? Of course not. How is this any different?

Maybe we can get some Scab owners to fill in, and they could play in some other arena's. If they did that would the players pay the scab owners?

Owners of teams for the NBA is much different then your small business with no unions. A small business losing money has a reason to shut down, what reason do multi billionaires not so much. If there reason is to scare the players I don't think the courts would be amused.

If the season does get cancelled AND all current contracts voided, we might see the equivalent of an "expansion draft" consisting of any players, past or PRESENT, who want to participate. Maybe have the owners agree to re-activate the players old contract they had with their old team when picking them. If a player is too pricey for them, pick someone else. Lebron & Wade & Co prefer to not participate, fine. Essentially all teams starting from scratch, then have the draft in June as usual.
