What's new

Scary that George Hill means this much to the Jazz success.

When was that? Favors missed only 1 game to start the season. Hill didn't really play that many games without Favors(1). We are 7-4 in games with Favors and 4-3 in games with Hill. We were 3-2 in games with Favors and without Hill, before Favors went out. And we are talking about obviously limited Favors here. We are 0-3 since Favors went out or 0-4 if you count the first game he didn't play in(vs Portland). And Hill was on fire to start the season. I hope people don't expect him to keep shooting 66% TS%.

Don't get me wrong. I love Hill and he's integral part of our success, but I'm sick of people underestimating Favors' impact on this team. He is huge part of our defensive identity and we suck big time on D without him.

Well said

Hill makes us better but we would be doing well without him if we had a healthy Hayward, Favors and Burks.

This. I don't know what team Log has been watching, but Utah's defense especially is impacted a great deal with Favors out. If Gobert gets into foul trouble with no Favors, this team won't win many games in that scenario. It's funny to me that fans expect us not to skip a beat in a game like the one against the Nuggets.

While I agree, how much of that has do with who's replacing him? Trey Lyles and Boris Diaw have both been playing below replacement level this season. Exum and Mack haven't been great either, but that duo hasn't been as bad imo. The biggest thing Favors was doing this year was keeping Diaw and Lyles off the floor. We also don't have an identity without Favors. We're caught between being a spread floor team and a grindout/rebounding team. Someone how we've ended up without the benefits of either but have all the drawbacks. The floor isn't spaced, yet we're soft inside the paint at the same time.

It's more of just having anyone who can make a jumpshot at the PG position.

Exum is improving, but he still isnt good for our offense in the half-court.

In the Clipper game Mike Smith did say that Ingles had told him that Hill was the only guy on the team that could beat him in HORSE. That being said, I do think it's as much about breaking down the defense and finding shooters in their comfort zones as being able to stick it. People seem to forget that Exum is still learning the finer points of running the show. I'm sure he'll get it, he's young but on the National team's depth chart I think he's still #3 behind Mills and Delavedova.

On the national team he slots in as a SG. Allows him to guard other teams SGs, and when he's on the floor with Delly or Mills it allows them to focus more on their scoring - in particular Mills can run off screens instead of having to initiate a play.

Haven't read the thread but this isn't just on Hill being out. Jazz are the #1 team for man games missed.

Favors is missing time, Diaw, Burks, Hayward and even Hood missed a game. Hayward also re-aggravated his finger. He is still playing but it clearly hurts and is affecting his shot.

Yes it is worrisome and this week has sucked. Problems are clearly there. Putting this all on Hill being out is not doing it justice.

So about this not being about Hill....

They said it's not "all" about Hill. Nobody said it wasn't a problem. Also we just played Denver on extreme rest while they are on a b2b and 3 games in 5. We miss Favors more than we missed Hill simply because Mack/Exum have been better than Lyles/Diaw so far. And this is a 60% at best Favors we are missing, he still hasn't looked right in a single game this season.

George Hill is a G.

George Hill was battling the flu. I don’t know the details, but it isn’t hard to add some here. When he checked out of the game the first time, he immediately went to the locker room. Then — to open the third quarter — he wasn’t on the floor because he wasn’t “ready” to come out of the locker room. Hill finished with 23 points, 5 rebounds on 8 of 14 shooting, going 4 of 5 from 3.

If only this was against the bulls in the finals this would be the greatest story line.

But it was pretty awesome to see his fight and leadership in that game. Plus it's nice to have a player that I expect to hit their open 3s. I think Korver is the last player i felt that way about with the Jazz.

This team is going to be special if we get healthy and rolling around playoff time.
