In a season defined by injuries starting with Exum ...then Gobert,Burks and Favors. The core that should start out next year IMHO,should start out and be the starting unit:
Exum PG ,Hood SG ,Hayward SF .Favors PF ,Gobert C

Exum ,yes was a raw rookie last year but he's the pass 1st PG Utah desperately needs, Who cares if Utah is near the tops in passes when it doesn't lead to anything
Hood ,started the season shooting poorly but has gotten back on track and is looking like the sniper Utah will need and probably play better when paired with Exum
Hayward ,if he can ever play with a healthy Gobert,Favors,Hood, and Burks he might get a chance to really show how good he is
Favors ,what's his ceiling ,he has the golden opportunity playing alongside Gobert to take a big step forward if he's to become a star player
Gobert ,17 pts and 17 rebounds against Andre Drummond and outplaying him, solidifying himself as the anchor of the Utah Jazz

Burks ,quite simply Utah will need his offense
Lyles ,starting to look like he will fit nicely with a lot of minutes in the 2nd unit

Anyone below these top 7 their should be no guarantees they'll be with the Jazz next year.

Do the Jazz need A "pass first" PG? And what is that, really? It's simply a guy who doesn't dare shoot. Look at the successful NBA teams: all have PG's who can take over games.

Jazz already have a weak shooter in Gobert. And Hood, Hayward and Burks are all playmakers. Add a PG who can't stretch the floor and Utah goes 3-on-5 offensively.

What Utah needs is a Derek Fisher type PG (when he complemented Kobe) - i.e. a guard to bring the ball up, pass off to Hayward and Hood and then park himself out at 3pt range. Not sure Exum is that guy.

I see her played that roll pretty well 2nd half of 1st year. Then we all cried he needs to be aggressive, careful what you wish for!!

No it's not. It's just a bit outdated now that long forward players at the height of near 7 feet can make plays just like any other point guard, hence the concept of point forward. A pass first is the guy that makes his team better by his basketball IQ, decision making and court vision who does not opt to chuck the darn ball every time he gets it to look cooler to his friends and ****.

But going through your point, it is actually where we are at right now. If your team can pass and see the court already, but struggle at making the shots, then you need that go-to first option scorer to put it in the hole, grease the rim a lil' bit more, make the ball look smaller, you know.

I like this. I would put Burks in there as the Burks fan I am but he does not possess the personality that getting to the level he can requires. So fudge darn it. Start Hood. I also think Lyles is a keeper. And an extender (If he is not already extended that is).

Six in my opinion: Exum, Gobert, Hayward, Hood, Favors, Lyles

Burke and Burks will be gone, question is how to extract value and how to replace their offense before doing so. They just cannot dump more offensive load onto Hayward.

him and exum playing very aggressive mindset before injuries!
did you miss those monster hammer dunks?!!!

From 19 yrs old to 20 yrs old over the summer Exums body was starting to show more maturity and he looked more confident ,alot of people here saw that, hence being devastated when the ACL happened.
And I never said Exum wouldn't be able to expand his game offensively,he just likes to control, run and pass 1st.He still had some of the sweetest passes made his 1st year and he made the best passes to Gobert who needs a PG who can get him the ball up high going to the basket.Exum feeding over the top makes a big difference.Jazz front office saw the same like most of us and he's penciled in as the starter when he gets back and Burke and Neto might be auditioning to play for another team next year already.
And what team are you watching ........I'm watching the team that is near the bottom in team scoring and in LAST in the NBA in team assists . Being near the top in team passes and at the bottom of the league in assists doesn't make you a playmaker.
I think a healthy Exum ,a stronger Exum changes the whole dynamics of the Jazz. Right now I get bored counting the Jazz passes to each other and ending up with a low score on offense.

Definitely Withey is a keeper. If he is going to be too much we need to flip him, but I'd rather have a backup rim protector with reasonable offense. For what he hopefully costs he is a no-brainer.

Exum and Neto are our PGs for the future, unless we make a trade for someone.

I'm done with Trey Burke. He'll be in the league for a long time, just not sure he fits what we are building here.

2nd half of the season Neto will have to be more assertive in creating points for team mates and not necessarily in scoring pts for himself. This is Neto's ticket back to Utah next year in backing up Exum, speeding up the offense while continuing the defensive pressure that a Gobert/Exum defense will establish with the 1st unit.

That was EXACTLY the offensive system with Exum, And the few times he DID dribble inside, he'd have his head down and dribble right back out and pass the ball to Hayward or Hood. Yes, he was "pass first," but his passes were generally around the perimeter. Utah just can't have another non-shooter on the floor with Rudy. Gobert is inside the paint only. Favors has some range out to 15-18 ft., but not outside the arc. That's why Utah needs 3 perimeter players who can shoot =>40% on their 3's.
