The video appears to show "No Kings" protester Arturo Gamboa, who was arrested on suspicion of murder, pointing his rifle toward the ground, not into the crowd.

It is shaping up to be another situation like Kyle Rittenhouse. This kid was exercising his right to open carry and a couple of self-styled fake cops decided to open fire. Why can't they just let the police do the policing.

Um can I just ask a question, why is a guy showing up to a politically charged environment, where the possibility of violence is palpable, with a ****ing assault rifle? Now thankfully I live in a country where you see a guy with a gun downtown, you run. (unless its a cop and then you just walk briskly and pretend you're not planning on buying or taking drugs...) Seeing a civilian with a gun, away from farmland or a shooting range is incredibly rare and almost always illegal. Seems to work pretty well for public safety.

Guns and unfettered access to them is the only thing protecting our freedom! Shootings at protests and mass death at schools and movie theaters is the price we must pay for living in the best most freedomest country on earth! USA USA USA!

Read a story the other day that the US is on course to lose 65 billion in tourism this year. I imagine that will only get worse, the consequences for the airlines, hospitality and tourism sector are going to be huge as this continues.

I have read that the guy with the assault rifle was there with his rifle to protect people. Which, ironically is the reason why the person who shot him was there with a gun as well.
I saw the video of the shooting and the guy with the rifle is wearing all black and walking towards the protesters from a different area. If I had no idea of this situation (no hindsight) then I would have thought the dude with the rifle was headed to shoot a bunch of protesters.

Ya, probably shouldn't be going to these events with rifles. Even if you plan to be peaceful and kind and are a good guy, it might be better to be a peaceful, kind, good guy without your rifle. The rifle kind of automatically makes you look less peaceful than you want to look imo.

I saw a recent video of this situation. It showed a man dressed in all black (even looks like he is wearing like a black robbers mask or something on his head) running up state street (ahead of the main group of protesters) carrying a duffle bag. The man then turns to exit state street and crouches down and opens his duffle bag and assembles a rifle. He then turns and starts walking toward the main group of protesters on state street with his recently assemble rifle pointed down.

People on social media seem to think this man did nothing wrong and that since the rifle was pointed down he wasn't a threat (its really difficult and time consuming to bring the barrel of a rifle up once its in a downward pointing position apparently). They also seem to think that the peacekeeper dude is a horrible blood thirsty murderer.

Apparently dude with the rifle didn't break any utah laws as utah is open carry state. True as that may be, just because you aren't breaking the law doesn't mean you should still go ahead and do something. I have free speech. I could walk up to an MMA fighter and call him a wuss and talk trash to him. I wouldn't be breaking any laws but there would likely be consequences that would be negative for me. There is no law saying I cant grab a knife and fork and go to my living room and eat my couch. If I make the decision to eat my couch then there might be some negative consequences for me.

Apparently dressing in all black and going to a politically charged event where people are mad at trump with a gun in a bag and running ahead of the mad people and then taking the gun out of the bag and assembling it and walking towards the protesters with the gun isn't illegal. Not very smart though.

I have a feeling that if a trained police officer witnessed that occurring in front of him/her that they would likely fire some shots as well.

Moral of the story just because you are allowed to do something by law, doesn't mean you should do that thing if its a stupid thing to do.
