Should The Jazz Clean Up on The Kings?

The Kings are awful. They lost Isiah Thomas for nothing also. Two top NBA players lost for next to nothing in the last 3 years. The Kings had a really good stretch under coach Malone, and Cousins looked to be maturing and flourishing. But then the Kings remembered they were the Kings.

Adding Cousins would have made us an instant contender. He would have been well worth the risk. I'm personally okay with not winning a championship, and this team aint winning a championship without another major acquisition. And we won't make an acquisition as big as Cousins.

But this whole conversation is moot. We didn't get him. NOLA did. Good for them. We'll see how it plays out.

Well I guess we can see what happens first: The Kings become a playoff team or Cousins makes the playoffs.

I doubt either happens in the next 2 years.

Most of his teammates hate playing with him and he ruins locker-rooms. The dude is awful, just read about the **** he did to Nik Stauskus. As awful as their FO is, Cousins is equally bad when it comes to ruining players and making people hate him.

Of course the Kings won't make it. Isn't the whole point to tank? But it's the Kings, so who knows.

NOLA now has the best front court in the NBA (best in a couple of decades?). They also have Jrue Holiday, which I'm assuming will re-sign with them. They need a few decent role players, and they'll make some noise.

Not sure they do, but they are under the floor and have some stretchy combo forwards already... definitely have a hole at 2 guard. I'd consider Illyasova and the rights to Korkmaz too, but I think they love Illyasova. AB is under contract for an extra year... Maybe they feel there is some more upside there. Covington's super cheap deal does not have as much value there as it would in another scenario because they can't find good players to take their cap space. Again, not sure they'd do it, but I don't view it as super lopsided... value is close imo.

They should be trying to lose a few extra games this year, but I'm not sure Colangelo is up for that.

They really like Covington, they aren't trading him for Burks.

If Hayward and Hill were under contract for more than a year I might be okay with the shock to the system, but you can't look at it just in a vacuum with Cousins. He's a strong enough personality to ruin your culture. Just too risky where we are at.

Boston has easier assets to move, has more incentive as they have a much easier path to the finals and they weren't in at all.

Cousins has been part of the problem, but yeah the Kings are a dumpster fire so it wasn't like he had help. Although he kind of ran IT off.

Or Cousins will blow the **** up and Jrue won't re-sign because of it? They are still worse than 8 other teams. Denver is way better and Jokic is going to be better than Cousins or Davis in a couple of years, if not by next year. I have my doubts it will work. I think it has a better chance of being a complete trainwreck than working out.

Davis/Cousins play in the same spaces on offense and both are extreme usage players. That is a huge adjustment and I can see Cousins getting very hard to handle if he isnt getting his touches he is use to and they are losing.

Fair enough. Time will tell. And Denver is not WAY better. Come on. Jokic is a stud tho.

I kinda agree with Cy-- if they had an entire preseason to make it work it would be a different story. Obvious playoff team.

However, if the coaching staff can pull it off, and this team hits the ground running, I would be rather scared if I was Golden State. Whether it's Denver or NOLA, they have their hands full. Playmaking bigs with height might be their achilles-- Draymond isn't long enough to stop the likes of Jokic. Can Durant slow down Davis?

Draymond bodies Cousins for a few plays and Cousins takes himself, and his entire team, out of the game by crying to the ref. It will be contagious and ruin their team.

That's my biggest issue with Cousins. He's such a whiny little bitch.

On the most recent Zach Lowe pod he said he would rather have Darren Collison than Lou Williams. He basically echoed my critique of Williams: one of the worst defenders in the NBA and his game doesn't translate to the playoffs because refs dont give him the same cheap calls he lives off of.

What if we flipped Burks for Temple and some additional assets... I really like Temple... can defend one through three and makes enough shots. Reasonably paid... by all accounts a good dude.
I really like Temple as well, but I don't think I'd want to give up on Burks yet. He'd fit in well on the Jazz.

ESPN says that Kings are also waiving Matt Barnes to accomodate the trade with NO. I wouldn't mind him on the Jazz. Anyone that punches Derick Fisher in the face fully earns my respect.

There is just no ****ing way they couldn't have gotten more for Cousins. Refuse to believe otherwise. The NBA can seriously suck sometimes.

You've got to be desperate to roll the dice with Cousins. He's never won and players and coaches hate him around the league. His market value reflects this.

WTF are the Kings trading unprotected picks if they're tanking????

He's referring to a trade that happened last off season.
