Read the rest of the post and you’ll notice that I said it wasn’t the solution. That's another awful solution.
So if you are down 3 with 1 second left and you've used all your 3's you now cant tie the game?
All of these solutions are just complete ***, no offense.
Sure. You don’t catch and shoot an 18 foot jumper. Creating difficult isolation buckets isn’t efficient but it’s much more entertaining than watching mediocre shooters bomb away on catch and shoot threes. Can someone explain what makes a 3 pointer so much worse to watch than 18 foot jumper?
One way to combat the overuse of the 3-point shot is to change the scoring. Make baskets worth 3 points and have a 4-pointer. That way the analytics will move back to scoring closer to the basket. Right now it is better to shoot more 3s because of the numbers.
Widen the court, add more spacing and move back the 3 pt line a couple feet in the process.
There are 4 ways generally you could do it: increase the value of inside shots, decrease the difficulty of inside shots, decrease the value of outside shots, or increase the difficulty of outside shots.
What about say you can't have more than 2 shots outside in a row as a player or, say, 4 for a team, then you have to have at least 1 or 2 inside shots. If you're over the limit, it counts as 2 points, or, maybe if you want to be extreme, it's a technical?
The issue with that is that guys like Jokic/Embiid are already incredibly dominant. Them being able to completely camp in the lane would make them extremely unbalanced.Maybe eliminate the 3 second lane rule and see what that does
Might make two point baskets easier
