Should the South secede?

Since I live in Utah, I'd rather certain states form together depending on political ideology.
Constitutional western red states! Make it so.

Oh yeah.... and we would have Texas, New Mexico, and most likely Montana.
Good luck getting passed any forces on unfamiliar northwestern mountainous terrain.
Not to mention, we'd have the biggest militia.... and the richest church organization in the world.

There is no reason for secession. Simply have tax rates determined and collected by the States with a much smaller tax % automatically going to the Feds such as 2% (There would need to be a Constitutional Amendment to do this). That way, the States can choose how to tax their citizens, and citizens can choose to move to other States to have more favorable tax rates.

Just like corporations have moved to States with lower tax rates, so too will many citizens.

There should be absolutely 0% of any tax going to the Feds.
We all know that federal income tax goes straight to the Federal Reserves tyrannical interest rate, charged for every dollar printed.

States and local taxes are just fine, because they can all be retracted or re-instated by simply voting.

sounds like you want to form your own Afghanistan

I'd love to see an argument between TheSilencer and The Thriller. I wonder if the universe can handle such a singularity of crazy.

They are not even close. I've lived in every state you mentioned except Delaware. Maryland is north.

You lose sir!!!

You're telling me you actually believe in paying federal taxes on your wage??
Well it's a free country of course.
But our founders sure didn't.

Northeast thinks of the most far left position he can then he goes with that.

I'm assuming that was a joke, but I'll answer anyway. I was referring to whether Maryland was a 'Northern' state or a 'Southern' state, not where one was located with relation to the other.

He was talking about the actual ones that seceded.

But I thought Maryland wanted to secede but was prevented from doing so.

This one shows it as a "border state" during the civil.

Southern Definition
A clear indication of the difference in thinking can be seen on the Confederate battle flag. A quick examination of the stars on the flag shows thirteen stars. The list on the left shows only eleven seceding states. So obviously the South considered two states to be a part of the Confederacy that were not that all that clear. The two states in dispute were Kentucky and Maryland.

As a slave state Kentucky played a role as a supplier of slave labor to the deep South. But the Union firmly took hold of Kentucky in late 1862, so it would be difficult to claim it for the South. However, southern sentiment was strong in some areas of Kentucky, and as many as 25,000 soldiers joined the Confederate Army from that state. Had Kentucky clearly fallen into the Confederacy many more men would have been available for service. By contrast Kentucky funrished 75,000 men to the Union Army.

Maryland was also a slave holding state and faced many of the problems that were evident in Kentucky. Maryland had the added problem of proximity to Washington, DC. The Union needed Maryland as a buffer, and for that reason claimed Maryland early in the conflict.

I would like to reduce or even eliminate federal taxes on wages.
I have even discussed ways this could be done.
However, you just want to pay taxes on wages to state governments instead.
This would make things worse, not better.

Federal taxes should most definitely be eliminated. From taxes on wages, all the way down to cell phone taxes and land tax.
This is the way it could be done..... shut down the IRS.

And I wasn't insinuating that I "wanted" to pay taxes to state governments, but at least when it comes to local and state gov taxes, citizens actually get a chance to vote on that fact.

Weather it makes things worse or better is up to interpretation, and at least it would be up to the choice of a vote.

So you will have all the rich people just move to states that don't tax them.
If your goal is to help rich people and hurt everyone else, this is an awesome plan.

You mean like they are already?

See: California and on a wider scale France.
