I think most people understand that a guy who has had no NBA experience in the last 25 years and has never held a NBA job outside of playing doesn't have much to offer.

I don't hate Stockton, he is actually my favorite player of all time. But I feel it takes more than just being good at something for you to be able to coach and mentor someone.
First and most important, you must want it. Not sure if that's what Stockton want to be doing right now.
Second, you need to know how to teach, how to reach your mentee in a way it will work for him, it's not as simple as show how it's done.
Third, it takes time. It can take a lot of time and effort to unlock even the simplest things on how to better read a defense or a specific situation, will Stockton be there for the whole journey?
