Your post made me googled it. According to the interwebs she is fine but the Miami County police has launched a criminal investigation and could file assault charges. And well deserved if you asked me. The shovel girl had turned her back and appeared leaving when she got wacked.

Let's call a spade a spade here (and no, that is not racialist, so look up the origin of the phrase before reporting it as such).
The fight was basically over until the one girl grabbed the shovel. And then the other turned and ran to avoid getting hit. She was in retreat, back turned when the girl launched the shovel at her.
If the side of that shovel had hit an angle - or harder - there could have been more serious, even permanent damage (or death).
Definitely need to have assault charges filed.

I saw the girl in the pink shirt refuse to leave the property, and then follow the other girl around until that other girl grabbed a shovel. My thought was that if it had been a gun instead of a shovel, the NRA would have been all over the defense of the person who did the damage.

Then the person would be on charge for murder/assualt with a deadly weapon for shooting a person in the back. I think you'd both be wrong and the NRA wouldn't get involved.
