Sleep trouble

I was curious if anyone else has trouble getting good sleep. Like 7-8 hours consistently. And if you did (past tense), what did you do to improve your sleep?

I’ve been bad for a couple years now. I often get to 5-6 hours sleep, wake to pee, lie back down, and my mind starts racing, and I have trouble falling back asleep.

I’ve always gotten up and peed a lot (~4x on average) and have heard from a couple people that it could be my snoring that wakes me (not having to pee) and that a dental dam (I think that’s what it’s called) has helped them.

I know should certainly cut down on coffee. Maybe take magnesium before bed which I’ve heard works. Melatonin doesn’t do much and makes me tired in the morning so that’s off the table. I already often don’t drink any fluids after about 4-5pm at all as it is.

But in general I wanted to see if anyone had sleep issues and found some magic elixir.

I have a sleep disorder, and for me the biggest thing is just getting to sleep at a consistent time each night. If I stay up late or try to go to bed early, or take a nap, it throws me off for a couple of days or more. Luckily once I do fall asleep I'm usually out and don't wake up, so it sounds much different than what you are dealing with. Good Luck in finding a solution.

i had all kinds of trouble sleeping when i was younger which ended up being obstructive issues. Check if you can actually breathe through your nose to sleep by taping your mouth shut to sleep and if that works do it for a while to train yourself to breathe through your nose. If there's nasal obstruction consult an ENT specialist. I ended up having corrective nasal surgery and have had zero problems since

And what if I can’t breathe through my nose? I die because my mouth is covered. I joke but how do I determine this?

I'm usually good with about 6 hours of sleep on average now. I had wicked insomnia back in the day, but some things I've found that helped:

• Reduce your stress. For me, money or random drama would keep me up. Cutting out or addressing what's causing me to lose sleep helped more than anything.
• Red lightbulbs and blue-light blocking glasses. If you spend a lot of time on your phone, watching TV, etc. prior to bed, it might be good to invest in a pair of blue-light blocking glasses and red-light bulbs. I found these help me a ton. Example of blue-light blocking glasses (currently unavailable, but just an example): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000USRG90/?tag=jazzfanzcom-20
• Caffeine cutoff time. I do not care how tired I am, no caffeine after 1:00 pm.
• Diet. I'd watch for sugar or other overly heavy foods before bed. That said, I need a sammie before bed, so maybe that might help.

In your case, maybe look at how much water your are drinking prior to bed. I used to unconsciously slam a ton of water before bed and had the same problem as you with waking up. Maybe reduce it if you are fanatical about hydrating. Beyond that, some folks don't really anymore than 5 to 6 hours of sleep. This isn't uncommon and as long as your energy is good and you can get through the day, then that's fine. Doctors consider 6 to 8 optimal in a general sense, but I have never in my life slept more than 7 hours.

Try taking 3 Aleve before bed and see how it affects your sleep cycle. Aleve are anti-inflammatories and will shrink your prostate to give your bladder more room. If you normally wake at 2am without Aleve, but wake at 3am, 4am, or 5am then the issue is your prostate. If the Aleve makes no difference then it may be something else (like sleep apnea).

I get about 7 and half hours of sleep every night.
I wear a CPAP and I think that helps

Aleve or Aleve PM?

I can’t. Those God damn wires. I move all over when I sleep. It would be a nightmare.
Mine has zero wires. Maybe you are thinking of hoses. Ya moving around a lot isn't great with a CPAP. Though...... Maybe you wouldn't move around so much if you wore a CPAP and you were sleeping better.

Agreed. My Father in Law wears one at night and helps him a tuckfon. The tubes take a bit of getting used to, but might be worth it for Apnea or something similar.

I just saw a dozen people or so saying on Reddit how Aleve does wonders for them.

I’m gonna start this tomorrow. Wake up. One tea and one 8 oz coffee. No later than about 1pm. Fluids stop by 5pm. I won’t eat after 7:30pm. And I’ll take an Aleve and a Magnesium pill around 9:30pm.

Aleve is a temp solution. It's still hard on your kidney and liver long term. But it will help you pee less and see if that's the issue.
