Smart moving to top of the board?

Admittedly I have put down a few, but I just can't figure out what you're saying here.
There's been chatter that the Kings are looking to deal their #8 pick to get some salary cap relief. Should have included that into my post.

Step 1. Trade the 2013 Jazz pick (#14) and the 2013 GSW pick (#21) into Trey Burke.
Step 2. Trade Trey Burke, the 2014 GSW pick (#23) and take on a couple of bad contracts for Sacramento to get the Kings 2014 pick (#8).
Step 3. Knowing that a deal is in place for Burke, they can then draft Smart with confidence at #5, knowing that one of Embiid, Gordon or Randle will still be available at #8. Which is especially good if you don't want to risk taking one of those guys at #5.

Asset Management to move bigger and better in each scenario. Sorry I wasn't more clear.

This would be fun.

Smart may end up being the best player of this draft class. I believe DL may take him but I also am not sure how this info has been leaked. I mean it's very unusual of Jazz FO.

We have been saying this alot lately. Maybe this new FO is not quite as tight lipped as the ship KOC ran.

Here's my writeup on Smart from the "final call" thread:

Smart
I really like this kid even though I worry about how efficient he'll be in the NBA. That's a rare thing for me to say. If he can learn to embody Tony Parker (i.e. only take shots when and where he knows he's good), then I think he can be great. He's fearless, knows how to push tempo, and sees the floor really well considering he hasn't played PG for that long. He needs space to operate, so fit is really important. I love it when defenses can start with the PG, and he brings all of that in spades. It's hard to see him as anything less than a solid starter; if he gets in the right situation, he'll be spoken of in more glowing terms. He's got teh nasty.

The Jazz are trying to piss off all of their players. Throw Burks and Favors into trade rumors, don't extend Hayward, piss off Burke by drafting another point guard, sending Gobert hiking with Neto and making him take provocative pictures.

Pretty sure that they were doing this last year. Players with guaranteed contracts are always in the discussion. Now, if it becomes a regular thing. . . that's an issue because it creates a distraction - ala Pau Gasol. I think that the fans are a little more wound up about it than the front office is.

Also, I don't necessarily believe any of this stuff. Smokescreens galore. Nobody is moving "up to the top of the board" at this point. The freaking board is set. The Jazz have run through thousands of scenarios to get an idea of what they will do in just about any circumstance. The only thing that might change is the position of the pick. They know what they want to do if they move up, down or stay put. They've run through the curve balls and are ready to hit for anything that comes their way.

And it's about damn time. Can't wait for the fireworks to start. It's going to be an interesting draft.

It was a joke... see the last part about Gobert and hiking.

These guys have to just know its part of the biz.

Agree most of these rumors are much to do about nothing. Saw one on ESPN that said warriors and wolves are still talking. Cool story ESPN... amazing insight.

With a team like the Jazz, it's often the guy they don't talk about that they're most interested in.

Don't believe Randle, Smart and Embiid are out of the picture.

If Woj said it the rumor has a backbone. Maybe that little question by Locke about his agent recommending not working out changed their minds.

Jazz might be interested and might want this Smart, they might have a trade in place if things go right.

I think they just are creating more trade interest in their pick by making people think they could take him at 5. They also want people to think they are going to take lots of people at 5 so they are nervous and offer more for this pick. DL just flushing out as many offers as possible every direction.

I just cracked the code...

the kings want Smart and don't want any of the PFs... we take him at #5 to hose them over. Because their guy is gone they trade some bad contracts and #8 to us for Trey and 23 where we select.... A-God.

If this rumor has teeth, isn't it likely that it's because:

-Jazz worried that AG may go 3 or 4 (everyone passes on Embid), rather than Vonleh
-Jazz also want AG, will pass on NV
-Jazz may be left with a distasteful choice of Randle (fit problems with current roster, foot issues) and Smart (talented but not all of FO sold on him)

At least that's how I read Locke's Tip-off this morning
