Snyders failure to improve younger players costing the Jazz when their needed

While I disagree with the OP's overall sentiment, here is the reality - Favors is not a 38mpg player.

You can't tell me that Derrick Favors from minutes 31 to 38 was a better option than Withey or Bolomboy was if they were playing minues 0 to 8. (I'm not saying Withey or Bolomboy should have finished; but they could have found some time for them).

Joe Johnson and Joe Ingles are not 34mpg players.

Ingles worst stretch of the season came immediately after he played 36 minutes and tried to guard LeBron in Cleveland.

Snyder is trying to win playoff games by essentially playing 7 players - 3 of whom are north of 30. And another is basically a kick stand.

This scenario might have legs ...... Jazz go down with their veterans getting all the minutes and lose tonight and Clippers close it out in LA.
GHill is signed to a huge contract and Mack and Neto figure to be cheaper on the overall payroll of the Jazz .Exum already is buried at the end of the bench on Snyder's team.Snyder hasn't shown himself to be able to develop younger players and values the older veterans.

I can easily see the Jazz trading out draft picks and their young guys for veterans to surround Gobert and Hayward after this year as well.

Hopefully Jazz win tonight and Gobert makes it back for game 6 and this doesn't happen BUT....

Or - what if Hill and Mack are gone after this year and we hand over the keys to the offense to Exum in October after showing the confidence of giving him 0 minutes in the playoffs.

How do you think his first 20 games are going to go?

They will sign a vet PG if they lose Hill. Dwill or the Euro PG whose name currently escapes me.

Is that why Lyles isn't playing? I haven't noticed this weight you're eluding to. Has he chunked out?

Or is he not playing because he struggled with his 3 pt shot? Or because he has struggled defensively?
 
I don't blame totally the lack of development of Exum or Lyles on Snyder. Exum doesn't seem to have much of a mean streak and Lyles just seems like he's satisfied being along for the ride (like CJ Miles).

However, both are needed just for the fact that we are burning out our vets. For at least a few mins we must play these high draft picks just to give some of our guys a break.

If Exum or Lyles provide us with a few fast break pts, awesome. We need some juice. Our team looks so old and slow.

Meanwhile, can we all look back at what might've been? Couldn't we have drafted Booker instead of Lyles? And who could we have drafted instead of Exum?
 
I don't blame Snyder for not playing them. and I am not upset the player is not who the jazz need him to be. I will however criticize Lindsey for Trey Burk, Dante, and Trey Lyles. Small markets trying to compete can't miss on that many draft picks.

The offseason will be a tale of two cities. It is the best of times it is the worst of times....

On one hand, with Rudy the Jazz have a cornerstone and an identity to build around, and will have just made the playoffs.

On the other hand, much of their success can be attributed to veterans on short deals, all of the young players (minus Rudy) have huge question marks and Hayward has the choice of leaving.

June and July will be very eventful, I guess we will wait to see if it is painful or pleasant.

Lindsey must pull off a miracle in the draft. He can't wiff again.
 
Quin Snyder is known as one of the best in the business for player development. Johnnie Bryant and Alex Jensen are building quite the rep as great coaches for player development. The fact that Trey Lyles and Dante Exum aren't there yet is more a reflection of the players than the coaching staff. Just look at Rudy Gobert and Gordon Hayward for how good this staff is at player development.
 
To insinuate that Dante doesn't deserve playoff minutes is absurd. I wouldn't blame him if he was mighty salty if he doesn't get a decent shot. Especially considering Mack's overall ineffectiveness and the Hill/Ingles combo on Paul not being so great.

Hopefully it motivates him to hit the weight room and work on his fame. He should be a contributor to our team by now, not a mere cheerleader from the bench.

No playoff minutes is a tough motivator. Not just imo.

This will be the 2nd home playoff home game in 5 years. I'm not saying give the kid the keys to the Ferrari and let him start, but let him go around the block. That is a better way to motivate a third year player in the offseason. Especially in the wake of the dismal Mack attack.
