So What Position FA?

I think Withey is a perfect backup for Gobert, and can probably be retained for relatively cheap. Booker shouldn't be resigned. So I think perhaps we get Bazemore, and package Burks +1st for salary + improved 1st round pick?

this ... absolutely 100%

Bazemore can guard "bigger wings"? Not sure about that.

We should have traded Kanter for Bradley like I asked.

For ****s sake Boston has like 4 good defensive guards that we should try to snipe.

Yes he can. Duh. Tune in. He stepped right into DeMarre's hole (just like Hacl dreams of doing).

I guess I'll have to. Surprising given his dimensions. Like he's guarding Bron and Melo? Thought Sef guarded the bigger wings...

A guy I like that I think can be had is Tyler Johnson. Combo guard scorer... Think he'd make Burke tradeable and give us some more position flexibility. He's bigger than trey and a better shooter... Pretty good defender. Could step in at point if Dante isn't ready.

Don't hate bazemore but he strikes me as a guy who isn't a mental giant. This summer dollars will be crazy. Will cost 10+ M per year to get either I think. I think CJ is kind of a poor mans bazemore and at a fraction of the cost.

I wouldn't mind Tyler Johnson. Seems fearless. Can get into the paint.

I definitely want to keep CJ, regardless. I've been in his corner.

^Neither of those guys has the length and flexibility on defense as Baze. And I'd rather Baze launch 3s, too.

I'm not sure what his combine measurements were, but it looks like Kent's arms are freakishly long.

Sef comes off the bench.

Baze's pre-draft measurements list him with a 6' 11.5" wingspan. He looks to have every bit of that.

Bleh... kind of embarrassed here (I've haven't seen enough Hawks' games this year): it looks like the starting lineup has changed a few times this year. Baze has started, though, plenty of times.

and how the hell are we supposed to sign Conley, a "3&D PF" (cute), AND a wing?
.
Sign two players and use the #15 pick to acquire the 3rd. And/or make a trade. If Utah signs Conley, they won't need Burke. Does Trey and the #15 pick have good value? Why is a 3&D PF "cute?" Isn't that what Draymond Green is? GS found Green deep in the draft. Certainly there are shooters who also have the ability to be good defenders somewhere in the #15-45 range (projecting Utah's picks). Spend both our picks on players like that and hope to find that guy. DL works out more prospects than any other team; is it ever going to pay off? Utah unearthed more 2nd round talent before the DL era.

Conley is 90% or higher likely to stay in Memphis. I don't think he cares that they are on the downside. They have been in his corner since Day 1. His extension was seen as a crazy overpay at the time. My guess is he will reward their loyalty. I don't think we'd be choice number one and he isn't worth the megamax contract we'd have to give him.

I think I'd take back my CJ is a poor man's Baze... Baze is shooting much better. I thought CJ's percentages were higher. I think Johnson is pretty light's out though.

Bazemore would be a good signing, but I think he'll cost more than Tyler Johnson and I think the Hawks will really try to keep him, but then again maybe they think they can just mold these guys into what they need. The Heat's offseason has so many moving parts that I think a big offer early in FA might screw up their chances of retaining Johnson.

If we got Baze I think Alec is a goner... I don't want Alec to be a goner, but I think of our core guys he is the most likely to be moved (I don't consider Burke to be part of the core guys).

I do think an offer of Burke + #15 this year would move us up in the draft. He's recaptured some value imo. I'd be fine keeping him and Johnson though because who knows what Exum will give us next year.

If we're not willing to "overpay," Utah will never get a FA who moves the needle. Jazz will be solely reliant on internal improvement and backups like Withey, Booker, Ingles etc. that DL signs after few teams want them. Why did Okur and Boozer come to Utah? Because KOC overpaid. Jazz are a PG and a 6th man away (if healthy) from making some noise. Can Exum be the guy at PG? I sure hope so. But after a horrible season offensively as a rookie and a major knee injury, there should be huge question marks. And if he struggles again? What then? Is Hayward going to want to return to a team that does nothing but fight for the 8th seed and is content to say "player X coming back from injury is the biggest acquisition?"

Not saying Utah can get Conley. But they should at least try. Offer Conley a 4yr max deal when free agency opens, You never know. Players like Quin; they see a team on the rise with the best defense in the league when Gobert plays. Exum could then take the Stockton path and develop behind an all-star until he shows he's a top PG ready to lead the team.

Have you seen the year Conley is having? I'd be wary of offering a PG who is going to be 29 the max when for 4 years (especially what the max will be this off-season) when he seems to be on the decline.

Mike Conley is one of those dudes who was so underrated for so long now he is overrated.

I agree to the idea of overpaying FA to come, but I'd rather overpay guys who are good and young and have the potential to live up to or exceed their contract value. Conley will cost like $25 M a year for 4 years. His next contract could very likely become an awful contract.
