Soccer referee in coma after being punched by unhappy teenager player.

While I don't think he should be charged as an adult I think the prosecutor is reasonable in pursuing this. Hopefully it gets shot down.

Time for an example.

Time for a wake up call to players and parents.

Time to send a message.

Time for the Latino league to clean up its act.

Hope this punk to get his *** kicked.

Charge him high so he pleads down to what he should be punished for. Also think the league needs to be held liable and disbanded, especially hearing about prior assaults at these games.

Totally agree. Time to get rid of this league. However, before disbanding, lets have one last weekend of games and invite the INS to come watch. Could save a lot of Time, energy, and American tax dollars. Have the remaining legal ones stay after to clean up the trashed field.

And that's it right there. If we put this kid who lost his temper, like a kid, in the adult system we are essentially guaranteeing ourselves that upon his release he'll be useless as a productive member of society and will almost certainly turn to crime and do even more harm to society. Forgetting about the kid for a minute, that's not a good deal for the rest of us.

Let this kid deal with this through the juvenile system. It might be light on destructive vengeance according to some of your tastes, but it provides for the possibility that this kid won't turn into an adult who's only contribution to society is more crime and violence.
Or it means he won't really have learned his lesson. Or it means he's already broken and will just spend more time on the streets being a threat to public safety than he otherwise would

How many actual fist fights have happened in ward basketball? How many resulting deaths? If some of you wanting to attack the Mormon religion (no surprise here. Many on this website love to attack Christianity and anyone with morality or traditional values) think that the LDS church wouldn't immediately disband their basketball program if a death occurred are crazy. Comparing this horrific tragedy and league full of a long history of abuse to "ward basketball" are doing nothing more than taking a cheap shot. It says a lot more about you folks than it does us.

In the story his daughter claimed he has been beat up before and has his legs and ribs broken. I am starting to think this is partially the leagues fault. I think the kid should be punished but whoever is running this league should be punished as well if it is common place to have your ref beat up. Either that or this ref has a big mouth and is saying offensive things to people but I would guess this league is out of control and fights and other issues are common place.

If a bad ref, then he should have been dismissed by the league. That would have happened in other organizations such as AYSO. There is simply no excuse for violence. I don't care if it had been the worst call in the history of soccer. You do NOT assault a ref. You don't swear at him, spit on him, chest bump him, push him...and you certainly don't HIT him - in the face or anywhere else. The league has to go. And what ARE they doing? Holding a benefit soccer tournament/ OK, pass the hat around. But a soccer tournament when the guy was KILLED at a soccer game? Sorry, I just see that as being ill-timed and crass.

Well as someone who made mistakes as a juvenile I'm glad I was allowed to grow up and learn from them. But yeah, we should lock up as many kids as we can identify as non-conformant because they're probably no good.

You folks know that the referee killed was uninsured, right?

How many hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt now is that family with medical bills?

How are they going to pay that off? What about the income lost because of his death?

Has anyone here actually seen how much it costs for a funeral lately?

And we sit here worried to death over the killer?

Unbelievable.

I feel so bad for the victim here... His hand must have really hurt after that referee's face got in the way of his first. Damn referees, always getting in the way!
