Somewhat intrigiung CJ Miles Offseason news

1. CJ Miles does not control his MPG
2. Asking 46% from a SG is pretty high, if he could do that, while averaging 14 points, I would be ecstatic. I think more realistic is 43%-45%.
3. I agree, his 3 point shooting needs to go up. I would be pleased with 35%. I know he has the ability, didn't Hayward and Millsap both say he would win a 3pt contest among Jazz players?

Everything else should be reasonably attainable though for 25 mpg he will probably get. Someone bagged on his rebounding earlier in the thread, but he is actually a pretty good rebounder for a SG/SF. I suspect Miles will have a better year this year. Last year was a hectic year for everyone, and he had to try to be more of a scorer than he was capable of. Miles is who he is though, a streak shooter/scorer. I know he drives some fans crazy, but I think he is an overall good player relative to his price tag.

Well put. I'm probably more optimistic since I think CJ is going to have a breakout year. My guess is he averages 33 minutes, 18 pts, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists.

I would say CJ probably felt like he was free to do what he wanted once Sloan was gone. Nevertheless, I think CJ increase in "chucking/confidence" resulted in having Sloan gone.

Ughhh. I'm too lazy to look up stats, but I'd bet lefty that CJ took more shots per game playing for Jerry than he did for TY.

Where's GVC?

I wouldn't call CJ's increase chucking confidence. I would say CJ probably felt like he was free to do what he wanted once Sloan was gone. The coaches also told him that his scoring was needed off the bench.
CJ shot less per minute on the court last year AFTER Jerry left (15.8 v. 16.9 FGA/36m). Your last sentence at least makes sense, since CJ was generally a starter after Jerry left (starting 18 of his 27 games)as opposed to a bench player before (1 start in 51 games).

I hadn't even read your post until after I replied to cowhide...weird.

The stats are easy to find on basketball reference. If you go to CJ's game logs, and click on the red number to the left, the site will sum stats to the game selected (represented by said number). It took about 2 minutes to look up these stats.

Like clockwork...

Although it's possible he gets those averages...if he's chucking 20 shots per game. Of course, in Billy Shelby's world at least, field goal percentage doesn't matter one bit.

Seriously, no action on this post?

I'm just shocked that:

a) no one mentioned CJ's drastic improvement in free throw attempts last year. He more than doubled his previous high despite playing just 1.4 more minutes than the year before.
b) no one mentioned his volume of three point attempts, bad for 26th in the league. The only guys who shot more on less minutes were Toney Douglas who has the excuse of playing in an up tempo offense, Rudy Fernandez who sucks and Ryan Anderson who at least shot 39+% from downtown. In other words, why the **** was he shooting so many ****ing threes? Perhaps our overall deficiency there with Korver gone and Memo hurt sort of demanded this from him so to speak. Or perhaps he just sucks.

His free throws were a bright spot, his D improved some as well. Such small improvements in his 6th year in the league leave little hope he will ever be a quality NBA starter though. I think Burks will be better by year two.

Which part of "too lazy" don't you ****ing understand? Seriously though, how's that for clairvoyance?:)

P.S. Thanks

It's no wonder the Jazz have had such an aversion to drafting high school players. Even if the rules changed and allowed the drafting of HS players again, you can bet they would be no more encouraged at the prospect than they ever have been.
