Sorry gun advocates, you'll just have to suck it up

There are a million ways to dissect WHY gun violence is astronomical in the USA compared to the rest of the world, AND WE NEED TO START PUBLICLY DISCUSSING THOSE REASONS.

Conservatives who so staunchly advocate the right to own guns amid senseless shooting deaths can't scream about banning abortion, birth control or gay marriage and refuse to talk about gun violence in the USA. I'm not saying ban all guns except for the military and police, but I am saying we need to start looking into other ways to change the current course.

The conservatives refused to open a dialogue in the wake of the theater shooting in Colorado, Sandy Hook or anything in before, after or in between because it was "too soon", or the liberals were trying to politicize tragedies.

HEY GUN ADVOCATES, TIME TO SUCK IT UP AND TALK ABOUT A DIFFICULT ISSUE. I get most people are brainwashed with being raised by gun advocates, and feel personally attacked for some reason when their political ideals are challenged. But real people are dying and no one is accusing you of being the ones killing them. But your tacit support needs to be re-evaluated!

anyone want to take a stab at explaining this?

Extremely high number of available firearms

Poor mental health laws, resources and help

Inner city crime

Poorly written state laws (Stand your ground in FL for example)

American culture of self reliance

Redneck assholes that boast about shooting anyone they don't like

Current culture of no surrender and no compromise in politics

Bad CC regs/laws

Glamorization of gun violence in movies, literature and music in America

There is no smoking barrel reason why. There are several issues that all contribute to the gun violence.

People talk about gun violence like it is fundamentally different that other violence. Has anyone compared the rate of all violence crimes in the US to other countries?

What are the root causes of violence?

IMO these are some of them
1. Despair caused by lack of economic opportunity
2. Mental Illness
3. Cultures of hatred (see white supremacy, violent black groups, gangs)

So what are we doing to counter some of the causes? Closing state run mental hospitals. Making Drug running profitable to prop up gangs. Social pressures that increase the likelihood of single parent homes with poor economic outcomes.

In other words not very much.

We need to do what we can address the root causes of violence first.

Fixed to more accurately reflect reality, at least as far as comparing the US with other countries.

I think inner city problems and mental health issues are fairly similar when comparing other countries to the US than those other factors. I think the other factors play a large role in those two issues, rather than isolating those as contributing factors by themselves.

black on black crime.
how many of those ghomocides are done with "illegal" guns.

how many are done by black on black stupidity

would gladly post a youtube clip about the women who tears blacklivesmatter a new one.

but there is too much bad words in it. we can talk about harvesting babies and other disgusting stuff on here but god forbid we post an educational youtube clip with some bad words.

btw netherlands has highly restricted gun laws. but somehow a dude got 300 rounds and an ak47 on a train. guess he was not aware of dutch gun bans :)

I call BS, show me a graph of homicides per 1 million, regardless of what weapon was used to commit the crime.

Why was this thread started?

I would explain it by saying that Americans own way more guns than people living in other countries

I see what you're saying but I think it works both ways.

I don't see a pretty chart created, but if you look up homicides per 100,000 people, America sits around 5. The highest other country on that list that I saw was like 1.6

I believe, and am reasonably certain, that in very general terms (have I qualified sufficiently?) that other developed countries actually have similar rates of crime (e.g., robbery, assault, etc.) as the US, but what distinguishes the US from these countries, is the much higher rate at which these crimes turn violent and/or deadly, in many cases with guns playing a large role.

IF the above is accurate, why would it not be reasonable to conclude that the widespread availability of guns in this country is transforming many events, which do not need to be violent and/or deadly, into violent and/or deadly events?

Why do liberals hate guns because republican states are for them? These kind of stances perplex me. There are orders of magnitudes more preventable deaths by things as simple as more efficient, costly, and time consuming driver education at youth, yet the liberals ignore such a huge problem as this and focus on minor issues like guns. Why? Because it's divisive, and because people by and large don't like to address anything that will actually effect them and theirs. Liberals arm their children with deadly weapons of mass destruction on a daily basis yet they scream about guns. Ask yourselves why. It has nothing to do with actual harm; these neck breathers don't honestly care about stopping actual harm.
