How in the hell do you not know if your dad was in Nam or not?
When reading this I laughed as I thought the exact same thing and stopped at that sentence.

That was my first thought as well. That, or his dad had died or divorced, both of which would suck. Way to show class and tact, Mr. Mantooth.
My dad was there and I only know two stories. He does not mention it. Period. When I was in 5th grade and I needed a Veteran to come to school I was worried about where to find one. I did not even know he was one till that day.
Yeah kind of toolish but unsurprising. That was my first thought as well. That, or his dad had died or divorced, both of which would suck. Way to show class and tact, Mr. Mantooth.

Like I said before, I was spanked. I never feared my dad. To me, if your child fears you, you're doing something wrong. Even when my kids get spanked, they know I love them more than anything else in this world. It's not about inflicting pain and being dominant and/or the bully. My kids never get a punishment of any kind, from spanking to a simple stern talking-to, without numerous "I love you".Not to say he wasn't a good father, he's great. When/if I become a father, though, I'm not sure I want my children to fear the sound of dad walking up the stairs.
I spank my wife all the time.
No argument there.I'm the biggest tool on the site.
