What's new

Special Sunday edition: Angels on the Hardwood -- Jazz @ Warriors 3/25/2018 6:30 pm MST

.

Mitchell is having an outstanding rookie season. But he is still a rookie, and making rookie mistakes, and his shot selection is his current biggest weakness. And that's entirely on him - it's not due to Ricky or anyone else. And unlike another certain player on the roster who has never learnt to tell the difference between a good or a bad shot, I'm certain that Mitchell is smart enough to improve.

You make some good points but the intangible you're leaving out is Mitchell is being asked to carry the load for Utah. It's not like he's ripping the ball out of other player's hands. With Hood and JJ gone there are no high volume shooters on this team - zero.

Asking a rookie to carry a franchise on his back and then poking little holes in his numbers is a bit unfair.

And as far as comparing his numbers to Ricky is concerned, you pass the numbers test but fail the eye test. Ricky gets a TON of open looks and misses a lot of them - he gets these shots because some teams don't respect his shot but also because teams are already keying on Mitchell and leaving him open.

I agree Ricky's assists are down because of the system. He's not going to average 8-10/game. There's too much ball movement by Utah for that and not the old Sloan PG-centric P&R to the PF. Ingles and Mitchell get their fair share of assists.

But, tbh, I doubt I'll ever be a Rubio fan. He looks for his shot way too much and ignores Mitchell. Maybe if he were a better shooter, but he's not. Yes, he'll have hot games. But 41%/34% is NOT efficient (and it's a career high). I also think he's overrated as a defender.

I want to see the Jazz bring in a shooter at the 2 and have the ball in Mitchell's hands all the time. Donovan's role shouldn't be to go stand beyond the arc while Rubio dribbles around for a jumper.

Rubio doesnt ignore Mitchell jfc. Mitchell shoots the 2nd highest % of his team's FG attempts in the NBA post break, second only to Lebron James. Other guys have to score the ball and create a shot to give Mitchell rest. Some people are so damn dumb.

Yep, the on-court breather is very important. Donovan expends a lot of energy when creating his shot and he occasionally needs a bit of "downtime" to recover. No one is allowed by Quin to take time off on the defensive end, so that leaves either more time on the bench or parking him in the corner for a possession or two. The corner "parking lot" gives DM a moment of relative rest, while maintaining him as a viable threat on offense.

I gotta say I watched the Warriors feed and it wasn't as bad as advertised. Yes, they said Crowder believed he was LeBron James, but it was after 2 great quick shots by Crowder. One of them said something like: "he's feeling it. Next possession he's going to get the ball and do the same. He feels he's LeBron now". They were kind of right, because that's exactly what he did, and it was almost an airball.
Then, they were talking about how aggressive Rubio was, how he was fouling Cook every possession (a little homerism there), so they talked about Rubio defending Westbrook in the playoffs, with the way Westbrook attacks the basket, the way he gets calls, the way Rubio defends = 75 free throws for OKC. Again, just funny, not to take seriously.

We just got some hypersensitive fans here.

The Warrior announcers are great - Barnett and Fitzgerald have been doing GSW games forever. They're funny, laid back, not overly homer-istic. They never kick the other team when The Warriors are pounding them. Probably because they sat through a TON of lean years with bad Warrior teams. Along with The Bucks, I'll listen to their feed on NBALP over Boler and Harp most of the time (last night I had no choice being it was on NBATV).

I think the Warriors announcers are good. I thought they felt the Jazz 3p shooting was a lot more surprising than it actually is, but in general I think they're solid.

i disagree. Mitchell rarely scores much in the beginning of games. Ive watched many times when he barely touches the ball for long stretches. I think it was the Atlanta game (but could have been a different one ) when DM didnt even touch the ball until Utahs fourth possession. Rubio is ball dominant and looks for his own shot. Maybe thats by design since DM will look to handle the ball omce Rubio goes to the bench. Whatever the case, when Mitchell scores 20+, most of those points are late 4th and when Ricky is on tne bench.

How do you think Mitchell has energy in the 4th? You really must have never played basketball if you think DM can be on ball main option for every minute he is on the court. You are really huffing glue on this one.

I'm not criticizing Mitchell. I'm criticizing posters who live in a fantasy world where Mitchell isn't already the #1 option on the team. I'm criticizing posters who call Rubio's numbers inefficient while ignoring the fact Mitchell's are basically the same. I'm criticizing posters who think increasing his load will somehow make him an even better player when the evidence is exactly the opposite.

Mitchell would be running away with the ROY award if Simmons hadn't red-shirted last year, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have shortcomings. Right now the "little hole" in his game is his inefficiency. He's smart enough (and our coaches good enough) to fix this, but pointing out a rookie makes rookie mistakes with his shot selection isn't unreasonable.

The Dubs announcers were fine. I prefer the Jazz broadcasts because you get a lot more replays catered to Jazz fans.

I didn’t enjoy them at all... made it out like we were kinda lucky with shooting with some comments. Also made it out like Rubio just fouls all game and the refs just aren’t calling it. Biased replay watching too... show a replay where Ricky gets a forearm to the head as he is shooting and declare it completely clean. Made me appreciate harpring and his non-homerism.

I suppose they are much better than the rockets and Celtics but I’m not a big fan.
