Starting PG?

I just saw a blurb that the Pistons and Killian Hayes are apparently parting ways. He was the 7th pick in the 2020 draft and averaged about 10 ppg last season for the Pistons. I know those are Frank Jackson numbers but he might be a possibility.
 
I hope it’s fun he was one of my favorite players last year I’m probably higher on him than most but I think he deserves a chance

Two things wrong with this.
1) I said "not enough to offset the things Dunn does well". That means I didn't make a statement that they are close, I just stated they are not far enough ahead to offset. So you disagreed with something I never stated. However I'm happy to fix #1 and make that statement in point #2.
2) Your assessment of "miles ahead" is weird, unless you synonymize "offensively" with only self-creation in mind. Dunn is a better passer and playmaker and had almost 10% better catch and shoot percentages so his off ball spacing is theoretically better as well. Sexton is still better offensively as you said but not "miles ahead" if you count all the things together.

Now this is not exact science since Dunn did play such a large portion of his minutes with "team tank", and thus his numbers might be skewed either way and his true impact with the actual starters could be smaller or greater. But he looked good with the starters and was a big reason why Sexton injury didnt slow us down enough to accelerate the tank after the DL, and we had to sit JC and Lauri down the stretch to get Ls.

Big if, but Dunn was great to end the year and IF he’s really that dude here, you’re in a great spot.

Long term, a fully “realized” THT is a problem. I said a few times last season that 25-27ish year old THT is a dude you want on your team. Fully potential THT is an all star.

Then Sexton when he got stating PG minutes also looked really good but with our front court now I like him more as a 6th man if JClark is gone.

And then to Keyonte, who I think they really want to work out as a PG.

Just run what we have this coming season and see where we land……and this is from a dude that loves FVV.

If anything I would consolidate that group especially if both JC and THT opt in. Dunn, JC, Sexton, THT, George and Ochai... thats six candidates with good cases for solid backcourt minutes.

Now if we make Ochai play 2nd team SF then it still leaves likely either THT or George to end of bench and Id hate to see either one there.
 
I think what could happen is say we can’t lure FVV or don’t want to… the price on Dejounte Murray may be too high right now… we use the first 40 games or so to see what Dunn/Sexton/THT/George are looking like (I think JC is gone one way or another). At that point a guy like Murray may be way cheaper… if we keep 10-13M or so in cap room we can still do a renegotiate and extend if we want… or maybe Houston has buyers remorse (or Toronto) on FVV and we can get him cheaper.

There is also the Washington pg situation and I think getting Morris or Wright for a second or two is a solid deal.
 
I like THT to start if he sticks around and Sexton to back him up. Dunn to start otherwise and George to see most of his minutes in relief at the two to start.

Me too. I didn't like Dunn at all when we got him and it took my longer than it should to warm up to him but by the end of the year I couldn't deny his production. Imo he earned the job

Not statistically/production wise. I LOVE Sexton and want him to be the man but Dunn outplayed him. Dunn out played every pg on our team.

Very small sample size though and no one was game planning for him

I’m still intrigued Fultz. Don’t think he would be too hard to get considering ORL’s crowded PG situation.
 
Some statistical comparisons fwiw

THT pp36: 19.1 (shooting splits of 41.9%, 28.6%, 75%)
Dunn pp36: 18.4 (shooting splits of 53.7%, 47.2%, 77.%)
Sexton pp36: 21.5 (shooting splits of 50.6%, 39.3%, 81.9%)

THT assists per 36: 6.7
Dunn assists per 36: 7.9
Sexton assists per 36: 4.3

THT rebounds per 36: 5.8
Dunn rebounds per 36: 6.3
Sexton rebounds per 36: 3.3

THT steals per 36: 1.1
Dunn steals per 36: 1.6
Sexton steals per 36: 0.8

THT turnovers per 36: 3.5
Dunn turnovers per 36: 2.2
Sexton turnovers per 36: 3.5

THT is 22 years old and is 6;4" and 234 pounds (makes 11 million if he opts in)
Dunn is 29 years old and 6'3" 205 pounds (makes 2.5 million)
Sexton is 24 years old and 6;1" 190 pounds (makes 19 million)

So Dunn was the most efficient of the group scoring wise (though he scored slightly less), Dunn had the most assist and way less turnovers (great ratio there), Dunn was the better rebounder, and Dunn had more steals (seemed like the best defender eye test wise too). Dunn is also the cheapest but also the oldest.
Its a tough decision on who to start.
