What's new

Stockpiling 2nds and time to spend

Some Jazz 2nd round picks:
1993 Bryon Russell
1996 Shandon Anderson
2001 Jarron Collins
2003 Mo Williams
2005 C.J. Miles
2006 Paul Millsap
2008 Ante Tomic
2010 Jeremy Evans

Really. Really. Tomic was a great pick?? He's never. Never played a single game. I've never understood the love for this dude. Get it through your incredibly thick skulls.... He's never coming over to the nba. Never!

He's a lot better basketball player than the vast majority of 2nd round picks, though.

Very good trade idea.

Seems pretty fair for everyone involved imo.

I would do if i were jazz.

A PG who can't shoot and a PF who can't defend for a potential franchise player. Yep, why WOULDN'T Minnesota JUMP at the chance to add fringe players to their team, including one who is coming off his rookie deal.

Oh so you though that they only get burke and kanter in the deal.
Nope

Minnesota gets - Anthony Bennett, Enes Kanter, Trey Burke, Cleveland's future 1st round pick, multiple 1st round picks from Utah (including likely at least one unprotected pick) and the cash and cap space from getting rid of Martin and Berea.

Minny gets 3 players picked in the lottery, plus 3 or 4 first round picks, (at least one of them being an unprotected lottery pick) and get to dump some bad contracts for cap space.

All for a player that cant get them to the playoffs.

Sounds like a better haul than the jazz got from nj (d will had taken jazz to multiple playoffs, even wcf) and also a better deal than denver got for melo.

Hell, we get wiggins and give up burke, kanter, 2 or 3 firsts and have to take on crappy contracts. Thats alot to give up for a player that has done absolutely nothing. Seems like more than the rumored pre draft deal being discussed between jazz and cleveland. (Favors, #5 and 23 for wiggins)

And to top it off, minnisota knows that there is a chance than they lose love for nothing in the end.

This should be good.. Why is he better then most second round picks?

Well for starters he won the Euroleague MVP...

(I'm genuinely confused about the Tomic hate around here)

He plays 40 minute games, so he only averaged 20-22 mins per contest, but he scores 10-11 points per on well over 60% shooting, He shoots that % in a league which allows defenders to camp out in the lane on defense.

I hope Tomic sticks around to play with Dario Saric and Mario Hezonja on the Croatian National team.

Go find Tomic's salary... seriously... Thats why hes not on the Jazz, its certainly not his lack of skill...

Name the Centers in Europe that are better, I dare ya.

Euroleague MVP means nothing to me, and doesn't mean he can handle nba level. He would be the Jeremy Evans of the C position. He will get over powered by centers and he's too slow to guard most 4's and stretch 4's. I don't want to see this lurch of a player take minutes from Kanter and Gobert, besides, why in the hell would he come over now? He's now an MVP in Europe and been there for I think 7 years why would he come here for less money and a lesser role?

You guys seem to live in some kind of wonderland that he's going to come over, and if he does, it probably wouldn't happen till his mid to late 30's. It's fine though keep telling yourself he's coming.

What the heck? I didn't say he's coming over, and neither did PointGod_AlecBurks. In fact, PGAB specifically said he *wasn't* coming over (due to his currently large salary).

And I didn't say that if he comes he'd be a success. I only said, "He's a lot better basketball player than the vast majority of 2nd round picks." Which is true. How many 2nd round picks could become MVP of Euroleague? Some, but not too many.
