There is no debate. He's an excellent actor. Unless you've had your head in the sand over the last three years.

Not sure I'd want to 'recommend' it to anyone, but if you wanna see a film that really stretches the boundaries of human imagination I think this is the film for you.

Mud was good but not great. But True Detective was very good, IMO. He definitely step out of his comfort zone to do that one and it turned out GREAT imo.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but damn. This just sounds like MM had intercourse with your Mom and you're upset about it. Dude, maybe it was her celebrity fling, all married couples have them.
 
Just barely got done seeing this movie

I really liked it alot. It's one of the most emotional movies I have ever seen. Legit 4 or 5 scenes that qualify as tear jerkers.
It was very ambitious and tried hard to make sense but only kind of achieved that goal... pretty confusing plot.
But imo understanding every little detail of the movie was unimportant.

The acting was fantastic and there are quite a few big name actors and actresses in the movie that I had no idea would be in it..... all do a very great job.

Lots of epic sci fi special effects that are nicely done.... it's a long movie but I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and didn't want it to end.

I give it an 8.5 of 10

Yeah agree with most of this. I love it when big name directors do their 'take' on sci fi movies.
 
Just came back from watching it. My wife did not like it. I enjoyed it. Plot was a bit unbelievable but nice idea regardless. I wish those alien planets would have been portrayed more and with more unearthly features than what it was in the movie.

Yeah went with my friend who's a girl who didnt enjoy it as much as i did neither..
 
Random thoughts from movie...SPOILERS ALERT!!!!


1) The first 40 minutes or so was very rushed. He goes from farmer to already in space. The science behind it was just glazed over and much else was just skipped over entirely (i.e., training for mission) or rushed.
2) I am not into special effects at all and I didn't see this in IMAX but I thought they were amazing. Better than Gravity. Maybe from a technical standpoint they were not as good but as far as viewing goes, so many of the shots of space were majestically captivating, moreso than the aforementioned film imo. Simply beautiful.
3) I really liked the score, specifically during some of the tense, more ominous scenes. It was keyboard/organ/piano (?) heavy and spectacular though maybe just a tad too loud. Very Nolan-esque in that regard. And I thoroughly agree with Kicky on this. He needs to lighten up the volume on the music/scores, at least here or there a bit.
4) Much of it reminded me of 2001: A Space Odyssey and Kubrick in general.
5) Nice cameos as fishonjazz mentioned.
6) Not much subtlety. As always, the Nolans smack you in the face with their dialogue. The music doesn't help in this way either.
7) TARS stole the show. Wes Bentley needs to be in more films and I've always thought this since American Beauty. Hathaway was her typically bitchy self too often. I'm growing tired of that one trick pony and wish they'd casted someone else.
8) Loved the one major cameo and the twist involving he/she.
 
I have mixed feelings about this movie. The cinematography was excellent both the on earth scenes and the space/alien worlds scenes were just gorgeous to look at. The acting was really good although I too get sick of Hathaway's shtick, hers was easily my least favorite character. I also feel like it really could have used some paring down, a few parts dragged for me, and the ending seemed to take forever to wrap itself up. I also didn't expect it to be so sentimental, there was just too much ****ing crying in this movie, it felt like every few minutes someone was bawling. Which is one of the reasons why I disagree about this:

2001 is anything but sentimental, to me Interstellar was more Spielberg than Kubrick in that regard.

I also liked how the space ships looked old/vintage. Made it more real.

Agreed with Zombie on this one. It had a lot more 'heart'. Definitely more Spielberg than Kubrick.

Nice surprise, but could have been a bit longer IMO.

Bentley was ok, his role was a bit limited though (ala his role in Hunger Games). He should get a pivotal role in a movie soon.

I thought Hathaway was mis-casted in this and kinda ruined it for me in a way. Did Nolan get her because he worked with her on the Batman movie? She didn't fit the role at all IMO... her bad acting really let the film down... I thought they should have gotten someone who's a bit less 'known'... really needed someone a bit more real for that role.

What did you guys think about the ending? That we human actually were the ones responsible for putting the worm hole there in the first place? That although we aren't capable of it NOW that somehow we will be in the future? I dunno if that makes sense to me... I thought it was a really weak conclusion actually.


It also still doesn't even attempt to answer the grand old question of "why are we here, and who put here in the first place". Are we all somehow just an "accident"?
