Our medical system is nearly hopelessly broken. Nothing is connected, no one can get anything paid for, costs are completely out of control, we subsidize the rest of the world with the highest prescription drug costs among the top 30, yes THIRTY!! "Developed" nations. Because you know, capitalism makes everything better, especially life-necessary "commodities" where the companies are allowed full-on monopolistic control and can set whatever price they want. So ****ing broken. But, hey, rich people are good, so we can all feel good about that, right?


That said everyone needs to check out Mark Cubans pharmacy. He's trying to break into at least one part of the medical death-machine to make things better for regular people. Needs to be supported.

Meanwhile my co worker just set up an appointment to see a doctor yesterday and the earliest they can see her is APRIL!

Exactly. The wait time argument is thoroughly ********. I am FINALLY getting an MRI this Friday. At 2 in the afternoon. Because they moved my original appointment for early November THREE TIMES. And I have been working on getting this MRI for no less than a full year now. So now I get to postpone my trip to Utah for the holidays by 2 days to get this needed MRI so we take advantage of the fact that my wife's surgery met our deductible this year so I only have to pay $750 out of pocket instead of the full $3000 if we waited until January. And then we get to fight california traffic from Baker to the Nevada state line, the worst stretch in the entire trip, and now at the worst possible time after 4 pm on a Friday. **** me sideways, and mother**** the medical system here. Utterly ridiculous. And when we were in Germany, my wife's dr saw her on a Tuesday, determined she needed an MRI, and had it scheduled for that Friday. No muss, no fuss. Cost us something like a whopping $120. And then actually found something useful that can be treated, where American medicine for 25 years just told her she was too fat.

But this is the capitalist system. We will only do what makes the most money for the fewest people. And trickle something something. And hey, people who don't have overpriced and underpaying insurance can just go stiff the ER. Good thing the government allowed those kinds of missed payments to also destroy people's credit. Last thing we want is someone with health issues they cannot afford doing anything ridiculous like buying a car to get to work or, heaven forbid, buying a house, amirite? So much ****ing ******** in that. But everyone in a decision-making capacity in government has big businesses dick rammed so far up their asses they are basically marionettes. Nothing will change.


edit: sorry I will stop ranting. I can go on and on about this. This is one of, if not the worst things, about American, because it is so heavily skewed against lower income people, yet negatively impacts all but the 1%, maybe all but the 10%, and even in that still has strong biases against POC/minorities. Completely shameful.

On second thought, rampant white supremacy is probably the worst thing. This is a damn close 2nd.

Told to see a specialist back in October. Next appointment was in May. I'm actually having some problems now, but am told I have to wait until the May appointment. And it is about oxygen (my levels have been spending too much time in the 87-90 range). Who cares if I can breathe?

Jesus and you have the greatest health care system in the world? I live in a country of socialised medicine, my knee is knackered, need an op to repair the lateral meniscus. On Medicare it will take around 18 months to 2 years to get done. My doctor screwed up (I had to wait four days for an appointment) and filled in the referral incorrectly so i paid 300 out of pocket for an MRI later that week, the following week I had an appointment with a surgeon. (150 out of pocket) Early Feb i'll be going in for surgery (3000-3500 out of pocket) now I'm in a position to pay to jump the queue and my out of pocket expenses amount to a little bit over a fortnights pay. Its not ideal and im generally against paying for healthcare but it gets me off the meds im taking just to walk and allows me to get back to normal life, for a fairly small outlay.

Having O2 stats between 87-90 meets criteria of hospitalisation here. When i had pneumonia my O2 levels were hovering around 85-86, (I was still working) when i finally decided to go to the doctor cause i hadn't slept in 4 days and nearly burnt the house down, he looked at my stats and said "do you need an ambulance?"

Age and general health really makes a big difference.

There’s a company here in Utah that does MRI for like $400. No referral needed. Just make an appointment. Could have saved yourself some money.

I've been selling some graphics cards on KSL. People are kind of dumb.

First they all want to know if the card has been mined on. Cool. Graphics cards don't get "worn out" from mining, but there seems to be this idea that a card that has been used for mining has been abused and that the mean kind of electrons have been pulsing through the card as opposed to the friendly kind of electrons that are used when gaming. Fact is that mining cards are kept at constantly cool (relatively speaking) temperatures and do not heat cycle like a typical gaming use card. Heat cycling isn't necessarily bad, almost every graphics card will outlast it's usefulness, at least as far as the electronic components are concerned. But heat cycling is far more destructive than mining, which is a very constant load with minimal changes in temperature for months or even years at a time. Is anyone worried that their digital clock is at risk of failure because it is on all the time? Does anyone worry that the constant flow of electricity is destroying the delicate circuitry of their wrist watch?

So that's one thing, but then one guy asks if the card has been gamed on "hard." I have no idea what that even means. It's like if I was selling a used dryer and someone wanted to know if I've been using the highest setting a lot. Like I use whatever setting I want, the ****ing thing is designed to be used at any of the factory settings.

Funny too because I've been perfectly willing to demonstrate that the card works on a little test setup I have. No one wants to actually see that the thing works they just want to grill me about if I've gamed too hard on the graphics card, so I'm answering 20 texts each from a half dozen people.

I got it sold today so that's nice. Now I have to sell an almost identical card that has two fans out of three that aren't spinning. I'll probably pull it apart and see if it's easily fixable before I sell it as a damaged card.

I destroyed 3 graphic cards by overclocking them gaming.... They were all free... So no biggee
