If average Tom does not have gun to attack average Joe, why average Joe needs to defend himself with a gun?

I'm tall and thin, unlike most American men I didn't use steroids in high school and college. Nor do spend hours each week learning karate or Kung fu. If I got in a fist fight I wouldn't last 5 seconds. But if random tom, joe, dick or Harry decides to enter my house uninvited he will never get a chance to start a fist fight with me.

On any given day I have 5 or 6 people who look to me as their defender. Cops don't defend, they investigate, and take statements from victims. So if you are asking me to leave those people undefended, are you willing to follow me and them for the rest of my life, protecting them, giving me peace of mind, all while staying discretely hidden away? Can I show my kids how you work, and have them practice having you defend them? And when I get old can I gift your protection to one of my grandsons so that he too can defend the people he loves?

I suppose You are both unwilling and unable to protect me that way. So before you say another word about taking away my protection, please tell me your plan for getting all of the mentally unstable people off the streets, out of the neighborhoods, out of the shopping centers, schools etc. are you going to build massive asylums, or skip the cost and euthanize? Tell us your plan for getting all illegal drugs off the street, and the addicts too. Don't forget to include the people hooked on prescription drugs. You should probably institute prohibition again so violent drunks are no longer a threat. Then tell us your plan for eliminating gangs, and even groups of kids who create havoc for fun. Also, I am very curious about your plan to keep 6-6, 330 lb men from becoming angry, ever. Since I spend quite a bit of time outside the city I will also be looking for your plan to round up and destroy all bears, Cougars, wolves, coyotes, and rattlesnakes, and any other small criter that that could get rabies or distemper and cause harm. Lock up the borders, no more international flights, and make the world safe for my babies then come back and we'll talk about gun control.

At first I thought you are joking in your previous post but now I see that you are dead serious. Wow, I feel sorry for you if you are so paranoid that you can't live without gun because you feel threatened by rattlesnakes or coyotes. You better request the right to build fortress and have a tank with nuke.... because you know your average neighbour Joe just may have bigger gun then you.

and this is a slippery slope, there has been a string of break ins in my neighbourhood so cops went door to door questioning neighbors if they seen anything suspicious and warn us. the cp flat out told me if there is someone in my house i should flee. so wait i have no safe haven? someone can come into my house and i cant kick his ***?
it is illegal to defend myself unless i am cornered and no possible way to flee.

Good post except statistically your kids are in more danger with you having a gun in your home than not having a gun in your home. So if you really care about your kids then maybe you should not have any guns

Or just be responsible and teach your kids about guns and have them secured in your home. These stats are skewed by idiots that leave them lying around and haven't taught there kids about them.

My kids have gone shooting with me and other family members multiple times. They know what guns are and what they can do. That they are NOT toys. Then my guns are secured in a safe that only my wife and I know the code to. They back up keys are on my key chain that is on my person or by my side 24/7.

In my 44 years of life I have never been in situation where I needed a gun. And I lived in much worse country when it comes to crime then USA. Go get your paranoia treated.

My kids have gone shooting with me and other family members multiple times. They know what guns are and what they can do. That they are NOT toys. Then my guns are secured in a safe that only my wife and I know the code to. They back up keys are on my key chain that is on my person or by my side 24/7.

Sometimes you can teach your kids about guns and still have accidents happen. Kids sometimes make mistakes even when they have been taught about something right?

I mean hell, I know how to chew food and have been doing it all my life yet sometimes I still bite my tongue.
I am very good at walking up and down stairs and have all kinds of know how, training, and knowledge on the subject yet still occasionally stumble.

Also, even if your child never has an accident with your gun and has perfect knowledge and training with guns, that only aids them in using them for suicide if they (God forbid) ever get to that emotional/depressed point.


It's not only kids with irresponsible gun owners for parents that die from guns. I guarantee you that

About 15X more gun related children death and accidents in USA then in rest of the world. Are you telling it is only idiots to blame? Don't you think that if instead of 88% of household in USA having guns it would come down to 3-5% - that number would be much much lower despite the many idiots who live in USA? Come man, it is simple math. No guns - no gun related accidental deaths or injuries.

There can always be a situation where even with multiple guns you will get killed if somebody stronger, bigger, with bigger gun or better shooting skills will come into your house - because of the stupid laws you have who allow anybody to have guns.
Chances of that happening in Japan is 0.01%. I would take that number anyday over right of having gun.
