Pleiss is killing it this game. Knocked down a long baseline jumper. One step back and it would have been a 3, if he can stretch it like that in the league he'd be an interesting piece off the bench for us. 19pts/4rbs in 11 minutes of play so far.

Very good at tracking down the rebounds off of teammates misses and seems to have good touch on the tip ins.

He's having trouble guarding on the perimeter, not close enough to contest 3s, too slow to contain the penetration.

Why do people keep looking at the 7'3" like he needs to be protecting the perimeter? Is it a European thing? Fortunately not a lot of centers off the bench that are going to draw him outside and remain a threat to drive. Those guys have to deal with Gobert. . .

It is because there are quite a few 'bigs' in Europe who can stretch the floor and of course, the other thing that happen is switches on pnr or help defense where the big gets stuck on a wing/guard.

There are very few 7 footers that are going to be effective on the perimeter. If you keep getting your 7 footer out on the edge defending a wing, you have been outcoached.

Bigs in the NBA hedge against good shooter as well. 90% of the teams have guards who are automatic with 3s off the dribble. If you don't show on the PnR, you allow a 40% 3 pointer. Coincidentally a lot of guards are shaky with their ballhandling and tend to pick it up against hedges and double teams. It's to disrupt the offense.

Of course. Do you think in club competitions the coach points it out separately in different languages?
The American coach btw can speak German fluently, since he was living in Germany for over 20 years, he just prefers English coaching as he's more used to it. Even if it was German coaching, like half the stuff would be English anyways due to lack of translation for most terminologies.
So it's English.

Not surprising. In my travels I found that most Europeans - at least the ones under 40 - speak multiple languages, with English being at least one of them. It is REQUIRED in school, not a option like in the U.S. where you can take Spanish, French or some other language as an elective.

Good news. Pleiss won't be playing against starters so if he can hold his own against some of them, then he could/should be a net + against backup centers.
